This just goes to show we as UC patients, whatever are treatment may be, we can live a normal enjoyable life. We hope to all have success stories, Hopefully by sharing our story's we can inspire those who may be newly diagnosed that there is hope for them, what ever in maybe. You can live with UC. It may take you on a quite journey in life, in the long run I believe it makes us stronger people.

Are you doing well now that you have had your colon remove? Do you have a J pouch? There was at least 1 person at the Celebrating UC Success Contest that had J pouch and he is doing great!

     I've had UC for eleven years and the doctor has NEVER checked my B12.  Can I just call him and request it?  He gave me a lab slip for every other test under the sun checked off but no B12 testing.  I feel like crap.  You mentioned sleep disorder.  I haven't had a good night's sleep in over a month!  Ambien no longer works.  I fall asleep around midnight and am up at 4am.  Can't function like that.

I had my colon removed and a J-pouch created last October 20. I had a temporary Ostomy for 3 months. I had a second surgery January 21 to connect the J-pouch. I had a rough time with some complications. I was in the hospital for 22 days for the first surgery and 6 days for he second. I was hoping to go back to work in between surgeries but was not able to. I was off work for 6 months and then had complications 1 ½ weeks after going back to work. I was then off for another month. I have now been back to work for about a month and am finally feeling better than before surgery and hopefully my condition will continue to improve. I was told it could take up to a year to fully adjust to my new J-pouch.

Guess what? My B12 levels are higher than normal range. My dr. told me to stop taking my multivitamin. And now I know why my B12 levels are so high--1 Forvia multivitamin has about 8300% daily value of B12!

Wow, that is a lot! Do you have any side effects from that?

Hi Paul,

I am glad to hear you are feeling better (Knock on Wood...). Sounds like you have had a tough battle with UC. Everything I had tried or did for a long time seemed to always cause reactions from new medications or new treatments. It seems to happen with a lot of people. I hope things continue to improve for you! (The J-pouch is something I keep in the back of my mind), one never knows what your future is with UC. Every once in a while if I feel I might be starting a flare, another thing I have tried is a Chiropractor. I love him, he said I have know idea if this could help you or not. I does seem to help, he is great. He will tell me if it doesn't work after 2-3 times at the most there is no hope. It does seem to work usually after just 2 visits. I don't ever have back pain, the rest of my family visits him for that. It has been a long day. Hope to visit with you soon again.

Wow thanks for this story. I have never had my B12/Folate checked. Im having a blood test on the 22nd and I have just ticked the extra box where the doc did not tick. I will have it checked. Sometimes on the NHS you have to take care of your self and do as much reashearch as possible. Deb are you on any meds?

Yes just TELL THEM YOU WANT IT CHECKED! I had a hard time finding someone to listen to me at first. It took months to regulate.
