A couple months ago Rey wrote that it helped her daughter's flares. Just wondering if anyone else has good results from it and if so, at what dosage ... / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Yes. It worked to help me drop my pred dose the first time I took it. The second time I tried to use it rather than having to go on pred but I was too far gone/not willing to wait as long as it would have taken to get me out of my flare (boy am I regretting that now). According to my old signature I took 200mg 2x/day but it seems like I took 400mg 2x/day. I remember the pharmacist saying that my dose was the max dose for it when I got the Rx filled.

I tried it last year and it made things MUCH worse. I think I was on 200 mg 2x/day.

I was on Xifaxan for 1 1/2 years (800mg 2x a day) and it helped tremendously. 5ASAs were doing nothing and I was prednisone dependent. It never gave me full remission, but it cut down on the number of BMs, cramping, etc. I was put on Clindamycin for a tooth infection which gave me c-diff and had to go off of it (went on Vancomycin for that) Now it seems to make things worse when I try to go back on, but I think I have something else going on as I was on 2 rounds of antibiotics just recently. Interesting responses-- thanks, all! I would fear reacting as Bookworm21 did-- because the warnings that come with Xifaxan state that it can cause urgency. (The LAST effect I'd want from any med!) / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Absolutely NOT! I had everything coming from both ends while trying to take Xifaxan. They told me keep taking it, or I'd wind up in the hospital getting IV antibiotics. That was one of the few times in my life I needed to keep a bucket next to the toilet.
I still have a bunch of sample packets in my cabinet.
