Colonoscopy Findings

Just wondering is there anyone here that had visible inflamation in rectum and sigmoid colon on colonoscopy but biopsy results came back normal???

I think this site is just brill it answers so many questions.

I don't have a copy of the results, I did see them though and each biopsy was listed and just said normal mucosa no abnormalities found. GI said I needed to continue with treatment as he had seen and had pics of the inflamation being present at colonoscopy.

Last colonoscopy done by surgeon less than 8mths previously had no visible inflamation but biopsy results (which I do have a copy of) showed mucosal oedema with loss of normal vascular pattern and granularity consistent with mild to moderate resolving colitis.

Its just so confusing.

I wish I knew, as when I checked up Cipro on the internet it seems to be used to treat Crohns rather than UC. Yet it is the only thing that really helps when I am very sick. (pain in lower and upper left abdomen, only able to eat small amounts and then vomiting it most of the time, unable to have a BM and alot of gurgling sounds in upper left side). Am still awaiting a definate diagnoses. But the GI is thinking that I may have crohns and he is also querying that I may have stricture/s even though surgeon says UC. Have a family history of crohns. Lets hope the MRI might clarify it.  

Will let you know when I get the MRI results.

Have not had a stool sample done with a few years now. Might ask doc to do one.

My previous colonoscopy (biopsy results showing resolving colitis) was done by surgeon (my symptoms which were mild on and off for yrs were put down to IBS), who then referred me to GI for small bowel follow through, but GI wanted to repeat colonoscopy, and now MRI. Blood work done also shows inflamation (not sure but I think it is high ESR levels).

Thanks for your replies it is nice to hear from people who understand as you don,t get very long in docs office to ask questions and it is always when I get home I think of all the questions I should have asked.

MRI was of whole abdomen and with contrast.

As for purchasing a CD......I wud love to but live in Ireland and we are a bit behind the times so I doubt if it would be possibe..... I will enquire though.
