waitin for prednisone to kick in

Hi again,

Well, I've been back on Pred. 40 mgs for a week now. I had started with an awful flare after almost three years of complete remission (big bummer!). Anyway, I am not responding yet, and am wondering what others experience as far as response time with pred.. I had been on and off since 1993 (!!)... so you'd think I'd remember this stuff. I think that I had erased my memory of all of this, ha!

I am waiting and hoping.... trying to keep calm.....Thanks!

At the right dose, prednisone should kick in quickly, within a few days - 1 week. If it doesn't kick in soon, you should speak to your doctor about this...and they might need to up the dose to 60mg.

Keep in mind with pred that eventually it can stop working all together (it happend to me, I'm no longer helped by pred even at 60mg it did nothing) so by next week if you don't see any improvements talk to your doc.

Funny i was going to ask the same question i have been on 30mg for 4 days now and still bleeding last time i started at 60mg am at DR tuesday so will ask if nothing changed.

hi,
im currently fighting a flare and i also started with 40mg, with very small results.

My doc has put me on 60mg and 4g Salofalk Enemas and im starting to see some improvements.


Give it a few more days...

Thanks, I will hang in there. I feel somewhast better after 9 days on 40mgs. ..bleeding a lot still in the AM but quieter in the afternoons and evenings. I've been taking 20 in the morning and the other 20 after lunch. That seems to help with the insomnia.
One hour at a time, right??

It has always taken me 2 - 3 weeks on 40mg to start seeing results.  I take the whole lot in the morning, I have never understood why people split the dose I have always been advised to take it altogether.

In my recent flare, I had been taking 35 mg of Prednisone for 4 weeks before I saw significant improvement. My doctor was considering to admit me to the hospital for IV steroid 2 weeks after I'd started Prednisone without much improvement. I freaked out when I heard that I would have to stay in the hospital for 5-7 days.
I started to feel better 3 days ago, going 6-7 times a day with no bleeding. My doctor said I could taper Prednsione by 5 mg /day when I go less than 6 times a day.
