fast hard heartbeat & question about flu shot

i've been having a fast hard heartbeat everytime i get up.it only goes away after i sit down.is this from the pred? im tapering down now to 20mg a day.im hoping that its from the pred & being weak since i was in bed for a month.does anyone else get this? its pretty scarry.its the only thing thats bothering me right now.I'm going to my doc on tues. and ill be telling him about it..I'm down to one BM in the morning..still D but with no blood!hurray!but im wondering if theres anything i can do for it?

Also, about the flu shot im getting it for the first time this year because of the threatening outbreak for the swine flu.i refuse to get the H1N1 vacine so im just getting the reg flu shot. Do you think i should wait until im done with the pred? or is it okay to get it while on it?

I'm certainly not an expert, but I think the fast heartbeat is in relation to the prednisone. I was put on prednisone for the first time 8 days ago, and I've been experiencing a fast heartbeat when I nearly do anything that goes away when I sit or lay down. Congrats on one BM a day, I have dreams about that!

The palpitations will be the Pred (but I'm assuming you're not anaemic?), and I'd check with your general doc about the Flu shot.

Pred makes my heart and BP go nuts at times.

Getting a flu shot does nothing for H1N1. It's like getting a chickenpox vaccination because there's an outbreak of measles. Doesn't work that way. Anyway, make sure you ask for thimerisol free shot. This year, Afluria, Fluarix, Fuzone, and Flumist pre-filled syringes all are mercury free. Flumist is actually the nasal spray live virus but still thim free. The fluzone single dose vials are mercury free and all the multidose and others contain full 25 mcg or trace amounts.

Yes, I remember the fast hearbeats from my pred days. Made me crazy - as if there weren't enough to worry about already!
Dr A, thanks for the rundown on the flu shots!! Are you recommending for the thimerisol-free because so many are allergic to it, or is there more to the story than that (does it have side effects specifically bad for us UCers...?) Thanks -

Well, they have made an attempt to remove it from most vaccines, and I always figured where there is smoke there is usually fire. If I see two cans of tuna on sale and one says "mercury free", and one says "has mercury," there's no question which one I am getting. I would apply the same principle to things I inject into my body. Most people don't even know there's a choice.

     Prednisone gives me palpitations too in addition to high blood pressure, increased blood glucose and anxiety.  After all the years being on and off of it I now have osteoporosis too eyes

I heard we're not supposed to get the live-virus nasal spray. Or maybe that's just us who are on immune suppresants?
