do mesalamines cause hair loss?

Seeing a lot of hair in the tub.....hmmmmm?  Maybe just that time of my life....i'm 35.....not looking thin yet, but if i keep losing so much, probably won't take too long.  taking maintenance dose of apriso.

it can....but were you just on pred recently?

hair loss doesn't happen over night...how much hair are you seeing in the tub..remember that we lose around a hundred a day.

I have lost soo much hair on pred, warfarin & asacol I went to the hairsalon and made a decision to have quit short hair. I dont like it at all but you should of seen what I had before, very stringy and awful.!

My doctor said you can loose hair from all 3 meds above.

yeah, on pred most of this year as well as starting apriso....hmmmm, seems like more than a 100 hairs a day.....i thought pred caused hair growth, not hair loss...???

pred causes hair loss on the head....hair growth on body parts. It alters the hormones that actually cause hair loss on the head.

Yes, the mesalamines do cause hair loss......it lists it as a side effect. I have not been on Pred and just the mesalamines and lost quite a bit of hair making my hair much thinner.

I was losing MAJOR hair while I was on both Pred and Lialda...now that I'm off Pred and on Lialda and Remicaid it has lessened, but still losing hair. Had to get a MAJOR haircut to make it look decent...

I am on Asacol and have not had hair loss from that. I also use Canasa (also mesalamine) and have not had hair loss, so it does not cause hair loss *for me*.

However I was on pred from 4/08-8/08, and when I tapered off of it, I lost about half of my hair. As soon as I was completely off of the pred, I stopped losing hair, and it has been growing back in. Which is super fun since now half of my hair (interspersed, not all in a certain area or anything) is now like 4 inches long and the rest of my hair is to the middle of my back. Actually, it is better now-when it was first growing back in, it made my hair stand up at the top and I looked ridiculous. I normally have *extremely* thick (and curly) hair, so I looked like I was back in the 80s with the poofy hair dos. It was supa fun, lol. But at least I didn't need to shave my face anymore at that point either, lol!! Gotta love pred...

I had a lot of hairloss when I began taking Asacol. The hairloss did stop after a few months and now my hair is growing back. It is not noticible because I have so much hair to being with.

I am also having hairloss..lialda & canasa...but in my case could also be related to my thyroid problem. i have recently started using Nioxin shampoo/conditioner- i was advised to use it by people here in forum.... its too early to say if it is working as i have used it only for 20 days and that too alternate days but yes the only change is my hair have become more shiny though little dry at same time....but they look healthy + my hand nails have become stronger & longer :-) they used to be very brittle earlier but now they keep growing.... maybe because of shampoo when i massage it in my hair with my fingers :-)
