Apriso Pellets?

Hey everyone!  I have not been on the forum for the past couple of months as I have been feeling GREAT!  My meds seem to be working wonderfully.

Just  a question:  I have noticed these tiny little pellets in my BMs that I am assuming is the pellets that are inside of the Apriso capsules.  Should I be worried that I am not getting all of the meds that I am supposed to because some is just coming out the other end? 

I just so happened to have a follow-up with my GI last week and he didn't seem to care about that.  He was just happy that I am doing well, my blood work looks good (had been going every 2 weeks for CBC and CMP, he switched that to every 3 months), etc.  He said "well, you need a colonoscopy every 3 years and you are due for one in 2 years.  Hopefully you don't need me until then!"

Let me know what you guys think!

     That is wonderful news!  Do you think the Apriso did the trick?  I am looking for something to help me.  Apparently, the Colazal and 6MP are just not helping me anymore.  My flares are getting closer and closer together.  I surely do NOT want to go back on the prednisone again.

     If you told your doctor and he doesn't seem concerned about those pellet things...then I wouldn't worry either.  The important thing is that you are feeling better!  Keep it up!! smilewinkgrin

Christine, I was in remission when I switched from Asacol to Apriso, but I think I got into a *better* remission after I switched, if that makes any sense. :) It could simply be that things got more "normal" because I was further from the flare or it could have been due to the med switch....who knows! I honestly don't care which it was, though!

The main reason I switched to Apriso was for the once-daily dosing but I also switched because Apriso starts dissolving at a lower pH and people with UC are suspected to have more acidic guts. I was seeing Asacol with medicine still in it in my poo.

     I will call my GI doctor tomorrow and ask him about Apriso.  Always going into flares is getting me down. cry

Chrstne,

I don't think it was the Apiso that got me out of my most recent flare (had to use the evil Pred) but id has been great. Fruitgirl and I always agree that the once daily dosing is the best art about t. I also switched from Asacol.

The Apriso is very expensive, though, just a warning. I would up the Ariso patient savings card, you can get $50.00 back from Salix the manufacturer. You will print off a "card" and take it to the pharmacy and they will add it as a secondary insurance (unless you have to go to a little hospital based pharmacy like I do, I have to send them my receipts).
