As some of you may know, I am wia truck driver that driver long haul. Well last night I was driving in New York state on my way to Florida. I made it about 9hrs of driving, but in the state of North Carolina, I had to go poop, and I knew I had less than 5min. So, I had to pull off on the side of the road, grab my wipes(always in reach in the truck), run outside, drop my pants and I went. As I was pulling my pants back up, I didn't notice the 2 state troopers standing there looking pissed. They asked why I just did what i did, and I told them I have UC and one trooper said " Really? what medication are you on? " I told him Asacol, and showed him my bottle, and he told his partner that I was telling the truth. His oldest son has UC, and is on the same thing, and told the other trooper that he believes me 100% when I told them I couldn't hold it any longer. They said for me to try and get some rest and have a better day. I tought they were gonna shoot me or something, but it was kinda funny. Just thought I would share this with the people that might find this funny.

Wow!! That is even better than the gelato story someone else told... boy you were lucky to run across a state trooper who knows about UC!

Thank goodness for a cop with an affected family member! You could easily have found yourself in jail if they didn't know about UC. The IBD angels must have been watching over you, Sodbuster.

i was about 2 blocks away from my house the other day when i felt the rumble in the jungle. I knew it was gonna be a photo finish if you know what I mean. i coasted through a stop sign right near my house and of course there was a cop parked there. i was freaking out a bit and was thinking what i was going to do if he pulled me over. i was literally going to invite him up to my house to ticket me because there was no way i could hold it long enough for him to write a ticket. option #2 was the bush =-]. i dont think he would have been amused, and luckily i didnt have to find out. maybe since it's california, the "california rolling stop" really is acceptable.

LOL!! That is a great story! (The gelato story was mine, btw.) Wow, just at the moment you thought you were in trouble you found a sympathetic soul. WHO coulda guessed???

That's quite a story! It goes to show that more people probably know about UC than you would realize.

Wow sodbuster (haven't seen you on here in a while), that was lucky that the one trooper knew about UC...this is exactly the reason why every IBDers should have a "I can poop wherever the hell I need to" card.

     We can all sympathize..lol.  My hubby puts my port a pot in the back of our SUV whenever we go on trips.  My motto...."Have port o pot, will travel".  You won't believe how many times that thing has come in handy.  One time was scary though...it happened on the way to our daughter's house, which is only a twenty minute drive, but I was in a bad flare.  about half way there I got that urgency, crept into the back of the van and just when I got on the seat my husband had to make a turn.  Talk about scary!  I almost tilted over with the pot stuck to my behind.  Not a pretty sight.   All turned out well though yeah .

Yeah, I thought you guys would get a kick out of my adventure. I ahve been doing real well since switching back to Asacol from generic Colazal. The canasa my doc gave me worked like a charm, and I would say I'm in remission. I had some good hot chili before my trip, so my need to go was not really UC related, but, i just could not hold it any longer. Now, I'm just on Asacol. I'm gonna hold off on any probiotics, since I haven't been taking any in over 5months, and I didn't use any to get into remission, so why change anything I say. I don't get a chance to post much anymore since I'm very busy right now, but I use my blackberry everynight before I sleep to check things out. Glad to see that I could bring a smile to some of you folks. Be good, be safe, and God bless everyone with this and other diseases.

I hear ya christine, I hate when my hubby goes over speed bumps when I'm using my port-o-pot, although sometimes it helps get "stuff" out LOL.

Sodbuster -- what a great story! Who would have thought that the trooper's son would have UC. The funniest part is that you showed him your Asacol bottle as proof. I had a good giggle about that! You were under the influence of Asacol! lol. Songlady, what was with the gelato? I must have missed that story!

You are so lucky, you usually hear about the sick joy troopers get out of making people miserable.

There are no places to stop for about an hour on the drive to the airport, and my husband was amazed at my willingness to "poop in a cornfield" (because apparently I don't seem the type). I still find myself taking note of good spots along the highway...

hi everybody,
i have joined the site. mine is quite a long story, 27 years to be exact, so wont bother you all with that now. just laughing about the story of the trooper. I am in Scotland, so i presume you mean the police. You must have been desperate to use the road side, but thats how it is!
Well, i look forward to joining in the discussions and hearing all your stories.

I do a lot of field work and luckily I've never had to randomly pop a squat...but if I do I hope I have that sort of luck.

Great story, Sodbuster! What luck when you needed it! You should keep a diary of your adventures, probably enough material there for a book: On the Road with UC. We'll all buy it! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
