another vsl #3 question.

it seems like vsl is very expensive.  Do you take it every day?  The pharmacy said a 20 packet box was like 120 dollars.  That was for vsl 3ds.  they do not carry the regular vsl.  Where do you all get it and how much does it cost and do you take it every day....thanks for the help.

Hi, I take vsl#3ds 3 times/day. I just did colonscopy few weeks ago. My doctor said my colitis almost gone except little bit at the bottom. Recently our family insurance changed from bluecross to cigna. Cigna does want to cover vsl#3ds. So I experiment with vsl to save money.
1. I took 1/2 packet 3 times/day : 2 days later, little pain started and felt lots of action in my interstine.
2. I took full packet 2 times/day : 1 days later, felt lots of action in my intestin.
Previous experiment : I took 4 times/day. : I did not notice any difference compare to 3 times/day.

Now, I back to 3 times/day and I am ok at this time. I concluded that I need to take enough probiotic to control my colitis.
Back to your question: I buy from CVS and it costs $90/20 packet box for vsl#3ds.

My insurance won't cover the DS. BUT, I had been ordering the regular #3 from the company, buying 2 boxes at a time which lowered the cost to $75 each.
Last week my GI tried again to prescribe it for me... the pharmacy called and told me it wasn't covered but that they would charge me $60 for the box of 30!! Saving $15 a month ain't bad!

I take one a day and also take Ultimate Flora Critical Care. That combo seems to help me as much as several VSL packets per day and saves a little $$.

I go to the pharmacy in a Stop and Shop grocery store!
