Liquor...here comes Christmas

I've had a few drinks here and then (no more than two in one day, though) and have been fine. I've even had a few margaritas. Everyone is different, though, in what they can and can't tolerate. I also avoided alcohol until I'd been in remission for a while. When I was flaring, it held no appeal, and I didn't want to push it once I got into remission.

Alcohol has bothered me since before my diagnosis, but moderate amounts (say a glass or two of wine or a few beers) I can usually deal with.

White wine is the most tolerable booze for me.

Beer and most alcohols just kill me but the occasional hard cider (Strong Bow or Woodpecker) haven't caused too many problems!

 

I drink beer when I golf. Doesn't bother me too much. I try and drink enough where I am all warm and fuzzy and can't see the flag pole, lol. Just don't get in front of me when I am driving the cart. I only golfed about 10 times this year.

Before I started taking MTX, I drank red wine every night with dinner and never had any problems. On the other hand, I love hard cider, but have found that if I have more than a pint or two I start to feel ill.

When I was flaring I found that a beer or two in the evening made my gut feel better. And the urgency went away. Not sure why but it actually seemed to help me. Of course as others have said... moderation moderation. Even now when I'm in remission I still normally have a glass of red wine a night and maybe a beer or two. Studies have shown that red wine helps the heart. and my cardio doc says a beer or two is also good for the heart. Maybe they didn't mean to do both in the same night though. I normally have a beer when I get home from work... the glass of wine with the dinner, and maybe another beer later in the evening when I'm relaxin watchin the game or tv.

Oh well. Cutting the alcool is the most difficult part for me. Most alcool are irritants so you should avoid them. But some are more irritants than others like beers. I find that white wine and vodka is good, even whiskey! But its all personal and like any diet too, some general guidelines works for a lot of poeple but its up to you to know what works best for you cause there is only one body like yours. :P
p.s: Try vodka with cranberry juice on the rock, sit down in a chesterfield and relax!

I think I am allergic to alcohol. After two dacquiris, I get pains shooting up my arms into my shoulders and feel loopy ... so, I don't drink ...

Interesting. My younger daughter--who is half Asian--gets really red and hot in the face so she can't tolerate much at all. It's common with some Asians.

My boyfriend can't drink. He gets vertigo. He can't go on rides :( for the same reason.

Beer and spirits are good with me although Red wine causes some problems...aside from a nasty hangover.

Or vodka with cranberry juice...cranberries are an amazing fruit, chalk-full of antioxidents, which protects cells from damage by unstable molecules called free radicals and superb for urinary tract health. In some people, regular cranberry juice consumption for months can kill the H. pylori bacteria, which can cause stomach cancer and ulcers.

I'm going to have to go get some cranberry juice and try it with vodka next time I have a drink (Christmas?). Is it very sugary though?
