I apologize if this has been covered a million times already, but I wanted to ask about the VSL#3.

I would like to try it. I searched and it looks like their might be a couple of places that carry it, but they aren't terribly close, and I haven't called them to see if they actually do have it in stock.

So for those you use it, do you buy it direct in a store, or order it? If you order it, where have you found to have the best price and best shipping?

Also, I see the packets have more active bacteria-has anyone used the packets and the capsules and have input as to which one is preferred?

I wasn't aware VSL#3 was available without a script. My doc has to write me one to acquire it. Walgreens and general Pharmacies should carry it though Walgreens told me that it was discontinued the last time I tried to fill it... Then later filled it unexpectedly. So who knows there, I'll find out soon enough as I'm almost out again.

You can get VSL#3 DS (double strength), with a prescription. It is covered by insurance. I understand the insurance doesn't cover the one that is not double strength. We get it at CVS pharmacy.

I just order it online, off the VSL#3 website, and with regular mail it gets to me in 2 days. I take the packets -- never tried the capsules. Regular VSL#3 doesn't require a prescription, but double strength VSL#3 does.

I have ordered it online, directly from the company, and it is delivered promptly in a styrofoam box with ice packs. Recently I got it from my pharmacy - they had to order it - and it cost almost $20 less than direct from the company!

i got mine from the costco pharmacy -- they ordered it for me and i paid less than i would have paid to order from the site, and no cost for shipping. my insurance wouldn't cover even the double-strength, so i paid for regular strength out of pocket.

i can't afford it anymore, so i'm switching to culturelle and eating home-made yogurt again. i ate so much yogurt when i did scd, i made myself absolutely sick of it, but it's a cheap way to get those probiotics in ya! :)

VSL#3 is definitely way over-priced, and if you are going to try yogurt, then there was a thread recently about making yogurt with vsl#3. I made it a couple of weeks ago and it tasted good.

What insurance did you have that didn't cover it? I have BCBS and am hoping they do. I'll call them today. I'm hoping to get it through my mail order pharmacy. I can get a 3 month supply for $60 that way.

Thank you all for the input! Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner-we are potty training here and getting ready for my 3 year old's belated birthday party tomorrow (we had H1N1 when her original party date was planned).

I am going to check around. I think in the end, it will be cheaper than what I am taking now, which is $30/30 pills, and it is a lot more potent. Hopefully it will work well for me.
