C Difficile 3 times in 4 months!

I'm not posting this to just complain, although I certainly feel like complaining, but to warn anyone else who wasn't aware of this condition.

It's called Clostridium Difficile and it can develop particularly after taking anti biotics.  I was very sick with a cough of some sort back in May and my primary dr. gave me some anti biotics, which indeed took care of the cough.  However since then I have been ravaged with C Difficile in August, October and again this week.  The symptoms are almost exactly like a flare up which now makes it difficult to figure out which I'm having (have to take in a stool culture each time) as the medicines to treat are different. 

So I thought having UC sucked, now I have to deal with trying to figure out if it's UC or C Diff everytime I get servere diarrhea.  Please think twice before taking antibiotics and make sure your physician takes this into account before prescribing you any. 

Hopefully 3rd time is a charm for me......

I'm really sorry that you have c.diff again! C.diff is what started my lovely battle with UC. I wasn't on any antibiotics though so I have no idea how I got it. I got it while in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy and it lasted the entire 3 months. As soon as I had my baby, it came back! I've had it several times since then.

My best advice is to take sacchromyces boularrdi along with acidophillus. I did a pulse dose with Vancomyocin where I did 3 days on and 2 days off but remained on the s.boularrdi and acidophillus the entire time. I still take both products and they help to keep the c.diff away.

Yeah C Diff has been worse than any flare I've had. I'm down to 120 lbs (5'9"). I had no idea it even existed and wanted to warn everyone to think twice before taking antibiotics as it seems us UC'ers are even more predisposed to getting it. But as a prior poster said, she didn't even take antibiotics.

When I was lucky enough to come down with it I was not taking antbiotics, have no idea how I contracted it, hopefully never again
