Sensitive teeth from Pred?

Anyone else experience sensitve teeth as a side effect from taking pred?

I'm Just trying to narrow down what's going on here. When you got off the pred did the sensitivity go away?

I was on varying doses of pred for 2.5 years. The sensitivity was at it's peak about 3 years after my last dose. I still have it but it has waned in the now 9 years since my last dose. One thing you can do to lessen the impact is use a toothpaste for sensitivity; I tried Sensodyne but had better luck with Colgate. Also you can use ACT at night; the flouride in ACT will help too.

     I not only had sensitive teeth...I had problems...two gum infections.

Yes, and I was on prednisone for only three months. The sensitivity is not nearly as bad as when I was on prednisone, but it's not back to where it was before I took prednisone--and that was about three years ago.

I was on pred. for 3 months and have been off for about a month and a half. I had terrible sensitivity, but I am okay now. I also had a lot of joint pain and stiffness.

Thanks for all the replies. You know when you look at the sides effects of pred on line or on the drug chart that comes with the prescription there is no mention of tooth sensitivity. I guess they don't consider it a big deal. I have been concerned and it's good to know that the pred is more than likely the culpret as I had suspected.

I've never noticed it the other times, but this time I was on a much higher dosage on a longer amount of time. I've been thinking this tooth sensitivity is just because of being so sick, but maybe it is just another side effect of pred. Maybe it has something to do with it's effect on bones???

Tooth sensitivity is a known side effect of prednisone.

Yes, especially to cold ice cream. It also gave me osteoporosis -2.7 t score. Now that I'm taking Actonel and had the j-pouch surgery a year ago, I'm actually reversing my bone loss. After 2 years of discontinuing prednisone, my teeth are no longer sensitive to cold items. My last bone density scan showed an improvement of 4.6% over the first one. I don't know my new T-scores yet, but the nurse said just getting rid of UC and being younger than 35 (33 now) I still have a good chance of building up my bone density to the point where I may even be able to stop taking Actonel in the future.

I think we all need to report this effect of Pred to the FDA. Tooth sensitivity is not a known or listed side effect and yet I get it every time I'm on Prednisone (every year due to poison ivy), but this time it's the worst and I've been off Pred for a month now. I was on Pred for a month, went to ER for joint inflammation because of excrutiating pain and couldn't walk, but my doctor AND dentist have NEVER heard of tooth sensitivity with Pred. I don't get that.

I have it too-and it is worse now that I am tapering, it seems. It is very annoying. I don't really remember this from the last time I was on pred, but maybe I have forgotten. I have always had some tooth sensitivity, but it is much worse now.

Yes, last year, on high doses of prednisone (60mg), I had sensitivity to anything cold, but I found that Sensodyn toothpaste helped some. When I stopped taking the steroids, the tooth pain went away ... but then my hair started falling out! I am presently taking prednisone again the past month at a lower dosage (started at 20mg) and this time I'm not having a problem with my teeth. Now I am just waiting to see if the hair loss problem starts up again when I stop taking the prednisone.
