Maybe it has been covered already but does anyone else sweat profusely while sleeping as part of UC? It doesnt happen all the time but maybe once a month or so. Side Note...I posted some info before about possibly having C-Diff.. Doc has shot that theory down and still believes I have UC. Though he asked me to submit to a terrible test(having NG tube shoved into my nose and down into the stomach) I initially agreed but since have changed my mind to rule out Crohns. He also wanted to start me on a low dose of Lialda 1.2 mg which I think I will start just a double whammy to what I am already doing. But as for now I am still treating my condition naturally. I use the aloe pills and a good probiotic along with a supplement called Total Inflam which contains Turmeric and Bosweilla. I have had no symptoms other than some minor occasional left sided pain when I eat too much sugar.  I have no more urgency issues at all, no cramping, no D, absolutely nothing everything comes out normal and like clockwork. I can actually leave the house and not freak out about knowing where the bathroom is. Though the Doc has not heard of my Aloe product he agree's I should keep doing it because it is working. He only wishes there was more information on it to see more. This is such a great Site!! Best to all

Yes, I get night sweats with my Uc. It's not every night but maybe like every 2-3 months I will wake up drenched. It's such a horrible feeling :(

Yes, during the worst part of my flare I had night sweats every single night. I would wake up 4 to 5 times drenched in sweat. It's hard to say what the number one worst thing of my flare was, but that ranks right up there.

What is the cause of the night sweats? I had night sweats during my flare while I was taking a full dose of Entocort. When I reduced the dose, they left for the most part.

I wish someone - doctor or anyone - could tell me why I wake up anytime after 3 a.m. sweating and usually slight nausea?  Doesn't seem to matter what I eat, how my UC is acting, what medications I am on or anything.  Sometimes more severe than others that is all but ALWAYS there - now for years.  Before diagnosis the doctor told me menopause, etc.  I am now 69!!!  Even though I feel mostly in remission - normal BM's etc. there is probably some inflammation there, right?

Yes, I get terrible night sweats. I wasn't sure if it was caused by the UC or the medication

I think mine are from the Prednisone because it was worse when I was on 60mg

I can't find anything that seems to be an obvious cause of night sweats. Many sites say bowel disease has night sweats as a symptom. Some say it is due to the fevers people have with IBD. Of course if we had fevers, we would see that as the obvious cause of the sweats, so it must be something else, who knows...

I got the quote!  You know I had hot flashes way before diagnosis and then they just kept on going way after menopause and doctors just shook their heads.  I have read they are due to the fever with UC but I never have had a fever.  And I don't get hot in the daytime - just at night - usually early mornings.  I never lost any weight or nutrients from diarrhea as it was never severe enough and I am obese and take vitamins always.  Hmmm!  Good question for my new doctor.

I was speculating that it was due to missing nutrients because at the time I had the night sweats, I was losing tons of weight. Everything I ate was going straight through, did not pause to collect $200. My period also stopped for 3 months, so for a while I thought it was early menopause, but that wasn't it either. However, after seeing Levi write that night sweats are listed as a symptom of IBD, combined with what you have written, Elaine, I'm thinking it likely wasn't the malnourishment after all.

I also did not notice any fever; my doctor kept telling me to watch for fever and go to the ER if I developed one.

I get them. There's an inflammatory response from the body to try and raise your body temperature; that's why we feel cold. When you sleep you usually pack on more blankets which feels okay (getting warm feels good) but your brain tells your body to cool off because after several hours under those covers you go too far and you thus begin perspiring. I get up and change shirts 3 times a night sometimes.
This is my understanding of it anyway.

Thanks Burli - that makes sense.  I try not to get overheated but I have an electric blanket and prefer to have the room temperature cool and warm under the blanket.  I have never had to change my clothes but I sure throw the covers off towards morning for sure.  ElaineNY

Yes, but I was blaming the Prednisone and not UC. Very intersting. Could be the body just stressing out too.
