Do you have any children? If so, did you lay down awhile after having intercourse?

Yes, I do...one son, and I got pregnant on our third month of trying. And no, I didn't. I'm prone to urinary tract infections, so have to pee immediately after intercourse to help prevent them.

I was charting, which I talk about in the other thread you started. I recommend you do that.

I charted as well, though I really didn't need to because I got pregnant the first month trying, miscarried, and got pregnant again within a couple of weeks, by just having intercourse daily. I find charting to be something important to do, though, because too many women don't know much about their own bodies and it's a good way to learn a lot.

pam, I totally agree with you. DH and I pretty much had sex every day from cycle day 10 or so until I'd ovulated, which was always day 14 or 15, as I had a freakishly textbook cycle. But, it was nice knowing when we could stop! We're not THAT much into each other as we used to be!

I started charting because I'd been on oral contraceptives for 11 years (my mom had ovarian cancer at 30, so I'm on them to help reduce my risk) prior to TTC, and wanted to know if my cycle was wonky or not due to aftereffects of the pill. Luckily, I was totally normal. I also think it's good to chart, because if a woman is having trouble getting pregnant, then the doctor can be given a whole lot of really useful information to help figure out what's wrong.

And just to clarify, UC doesn't affect the anatomy of the reproductive organs, which would perhaps be a reason to lay down. It can, however, cause problems with ovulation and having a regular cycle, but I feel that usually just if one is in a severe flare. Women often stop ovulating/having periods when they're really sick. But if you're not ovulating, no amount of laying down will help you get pregnant!

I do not believe I am in a severe flare.  I stopped taking my birth control in October and my menstrual cycle came back normal-thank God.  I used the ovulation predictor kit two days ago and it came up positive so we had intercourse around that time-now we are just playing the waiting game-whatever happens, happens-we are just going to let nature take its course and I will try not to focus on UC taking control over me.  Thanks for info Fruitgirl

So true, lying down, or doing back flips doesn't make that sperm fly any quicker....I remember being so frusterated every time that darn period came...I blamed it on him....
Then after a year, i just forgot that I wanted a baby and there it was I got pregnant....
I never had U/C until then....my body went into shock that I was pregnant at 38....but I got through it with mild symptoms....Oh the joys....Let's be thank full for what we have......

laying down is merely so that the baby goo doesnt drip straight out when you stand up.
dr's say that if you stay laying down for just a little bit, the sperms stay in there longer and have more of a chance of getting higher up into your uterus then tubes to fertilize an egg.
rather than going to the loo and squirting it all out into the toilet.
of course, even going straight to the loo wont necessarily prevent pregnancy either.

sperm can stay in your tubes for up to 5 days.
so sex before ovulation can still get you preggers.

laying down has nothing to do with anything other than gravity.
its just one of many little things than might help.
