Remove my Colon already!

So, what herbal remedies are you on? We all know that you cannot be "cured" of UC unless you have your colon removed. You have posted three times now and have been very vague about your "herbal" remedy. Care to comment?

My old buddy Dave was diagnosed with U/C, and never went back to the Doctor. His wife took him to a Nutritionalist and put him on a herbal remedy program. He has been free from any symptoms of U/C for over 10 years. I will try to find out the names of the herbs the nutritionalist had him on.

I feel it's safe to say he is cured from U/C if he hasn't had a symptom in over 10 years.

Unfortunately, I didn't know of any alternative, so my Colon was removed a long time ago. My doctor never told me about the herbal alternatives. So I now have a "J" pouch.

I'm sorry, when someone comes here and is a bit vague and says they have a cure, we sometimes wait for the spam part of the post. I did check the info you had in your signature line in another post, and it brought me directly to a Chinese herbal website. That is why I thought you could possibly be a spammer. We get them often, so I do apologize if that was not your intention.

I would like to read one post that says they have a cure for U/C. Forward it to me please. It's something that should be confirmed and then spammed.

If you didn't have any symptoms for over 10 years, what would you feel safe to say? 10 years in remission? Cured?

I had U/C for over 10 years, my last treatment was prednisone. After I went off the meds, it came back full on. No meds ever helped long term, just put off the "J" pouch for awhile. Ya, sucks for me, and good for him. Who wished they were Dave? :D

The emergency surgery was a terrible ordeal I'm sure, but 20 years of symptomless remission is remarkable! :D

Homeopathic remedies, that's it! HERBS!

Please forgive some of us if we seem pessimistic, we've had a lot of people coming on the boards in the past claiming to be 'cured' and most times the poster was either a spammer or they were honest posters of the board who were actually in remission, not cured.

I would like you to post what those Homeopathic remedies are so that I can try them if I haven't already do so. I truly appreciate you coming on the board to share this breakthrough with us and now I await your next post with what those Homeopathic remedies are.

ps.
In the meantime, can you at least give us a hint as to what those remedies are?

Question#1 If a 17 year old does not have any symptoms of U/C after clinical diagnosis, and dies 60 years later of a heart attack (age 77), were they still in remission, or were they cured?

Question#2 Why can't there be a cure for U/C?

Question#3 Is U/C a virus?

I happen to be the Crohns person who had the 20 year remission med free. Would I do it again? Not only no, but HECK no. While I was busy pretending to get on with my life, the disease was still in there doing its damage unbeknownst to me. All of sudden one day I got horrible pains and went to the ER, was sent home after pain meds were given only to return with the same pain the very next day. Had surgery after that 2nd ER visit. Then after that surgery doc told me "oh you don't need meds", so I trusted him and didn't take them. Ended up with another surgery only 3 years later. By the way, that doctor was fired:)

So from now on, I am the biggest proponent for medication for anyone with IBD. It has taken me years to get back to better health. I won't ever be without meds again as I never want to feel like that again. And if you were to visit the Crohns forum, you would find many similar stories of folks who learned the hard way just like I did. Good luck to your friend and his herbs, but I will continue to be a slave to western medicine. By the way, I am maintained solely with Asacol. JMHO

Comparing poison oak, a contact dermatitis, with something like ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune disease, is asanine, and to me, shows that you really don't have a very good understanding of what UC is.

     That's wonderful for your friend.  Maybe he did strike something that worked for him and more power to him!  I went to a GI surgeon in June of 08 after a ten day hospital stay for ulcerative proctitis.  The surgeon said to me that some people are just fortunate enough that the UC just burns itself out, never to return!  I know that is true because it happened to my friend's father.  Unfortunately, it didn't happen in my case .

There's nothing asanine about smoking putting UC into remission...it's a well-known fact that many people, who were diagnosed with UC after quitting smoking, can put their UC into remission by smoking again. However, not many physicians recommend it. Besides, your comparison still makes no sense.
