Hello,
Found this site a week ago and have been reading up.
Two weeks ago I started bleeding for 6 straight days, went to my doctor and he referred me to my current gastroenterologist.
The gastro thought I had hemorrhoids, and scheduled a sigmoidscopy, which revealed some inflammation. He did a biopsy and just called today and confirmed that it is UC. The sigmoid was last Thursday (1/28) and he told me to start taking Rowasa (since he suspected that it was UC), which I have been. He also asked me to schedule a colonoscopy within a month to determine if UC is only affecting my rectum (which is what he thinks) or the entire colon.
Based upon my readings from this forum, I have added sunflower and spinach to my diet, added 1 teaspoon of turmeric with black pepper in my morning and evening tea and will order Critical Flora probiotics today. I always took a multivitamin, Calcium tablet, and Fish Oil capsules.
I started Rowaso on Friday (1/29) and have stopped bleeding within two days. I have no other symptoms. Never had intestinal issues before. No diarrheas. Had a little stomach cramping on Sunday (1/31) and assumed that it was the burger I ate.
Some questions:
1. Will I have to take Rowasa forever? I read that most people take maintenance meds forever. Is Rowasa a maint. med? Doctor told me today that when I come for my colonoscopy we will need to talk about what medicine to start taking.
2. I am an avid runner. Is this something I will have to stop or at least slow down?
3. Anything else I should ask my doctor when I go back in a month.
4. Any other supplements that I should take?
Thank you so much for everything you guys do. I was freaking out when I find out, but I am a little better now.
Sincerely,
Houstongal
