OMG everyone... I made cabbage soup today, which I've made a few times recently.. same ingredients and everything... but BOY O BOY, did it give me a run for my money!!!

I didn't know my colon could hold so much poo at one time~!!! I've been on the pot 3 times, but the last round, I couldn't stop going.. and going.. and going... lol... No cramps, no nausea, nothing like that, just MEGA pooing~! No D either, just towards the end it started getting softer... wowie... my poor poopie hole... lol...

I bet I didn't let the cabbage cook long enough this time.. that's the only thing I can think of.. I was so hungry that I ate it as soon as it looked wilty and soft enough... A couple of hours later, I could feel the gas and bloat, and my husband had it too.. lol... Well, if I needed to get rid of any extra poo in my colon, it's all gone now... HA~!

So, if you ever make cabbage soup, make sure you cook the HECK out of the cabbage before consuming.. the other times I made it I let it cook a long time and it never gave me any trouble...

Cabbage makes me very gassy. I wouldn't even eat cabbge soup for fear of what would happen. I hope your done pooping for the evening.

Cabbage is typically pretty hard to digest...I don't have any issues with it, used to love moms cabbage rolls, made without tomatoes,, sauerkraut and cabbage, yum...she gave me the recipie but I've yet to make it, one day I will though. I don't have any issues with beans either, no matter what kind, none of them make me gassy or bloated.

I love cabbage but I haven't been able to tolerate since I got UC. You poor thing!!!

The only way I eat cabbage is making juice in the blender (no gas at all) or eat sauerkraut (fermented). My DH cannot stand the smell of cooked cabbage and I think cooking it changes the good stuff into bad stuff.
I've been drinking fresh juice for a while now and think it has beneficial effects and I've never had D (and believe me I'm likely to).

Different folks have different colons.

Ohhh I LOVE cabbage especially cooked in tomato soup! But I can only eat small portions of it or it gives me gas pains so bad I think I'm dying! Tell you what Susie, you are one brave soul to even think about eating it that's for sure! LOL

Is it true that because sauerkraut is fermented, we can eat it??? I had never heard this before. I love it and haven't eaten it in many years for fear of "what comes next."

I don't have a problem with cabbage really myself, to much from tomatoes though tends to cause problems.

Cabbage contains sulphur I think which is the "gas"

I can't do cabbage when in a flare, lol. But I LOVE cabbage and saurkraut (must be the Irish, German and Polish in me) and it makes me sad that I can't have, say, a reuban, or corned beef and cabbage. I BETTER get better by St. Patty's day cause my corned beef and cabbage is the BEST (better than any corned beef I've had in restaurants) and I refuse to go without. Also the beer, peas from the shepherd's pie, and raisins in the soda bread are all annoying lol.

Nor_TX: the fermentation means that FRESH saurkraut (and other pickled products like kim chee) have probiotics which could be helpful. However if you have problems with fiber or cruciform veggies in general, I wouldn't go for it.

I'm going to research it, I just love cabbage soup... I use chicken broth, leeks, onions, carrots, potatoes and a little bit of garlic with olive oil..... YUMMY... It's great on a cold day. This is the first time I've eaten it with bad results... I'm pretty sure I just didn't let it cook long enough... Well, hopefully that's it...hehehe....

Cabbage is an anti inflammatory food, supposed to be good for the intestines, if you could just guarantee getting rid of the gas causing effects of it... lol...

Try Beano - helps me!  Still have to eat smaller portions than I would like but can eat "gassy" veggies better.

Cabbage is on the Big No No list my dietitian gave me. Maybe it's just too hard to digest. I would stay away from cabbage.

I feel MUCH better today... Well, I wasn't that sick feeling, just a lot of gas and had to poo alot.. lol.. I think I lost about 5lbs though... LOL.... and Yea.. Colonoscopy Prep with Cabbage... hmmm we might be on to something! LOLOL

I couldn't bring myself to eat anymore today.. hehehe... I think I'm gonna pour out this batch and make a new one next week and let it cook WAYYYY longer....

We made enough coleslaw to feed a small army tonight at the firehall, and between the 7 of us made a good sized dent in it at dinner time!  I'm just 2 days out of a short flare that I thwarted with nicotine patches.

The guys have been having a fart-fest all night, but I think I'm leading the party!  Not seeming to bother my colitis at all though.  Just nice to be in an environment where I can rip em all night long, and not bother anyone!  We just compare and laugh about it!

OMG.. FFCanada... you brought back some funny memories for me..

You sound like my Ex Husband... (not an ex because he was a farter... LOL) He was a LA County Deputy Sheriff and BOY, would he and the boys let it out.. anytime, any place, who cares.... lol... In fact, they used to gauge and vote on each other's performance on a scale from 1 to 10.. He even taught my son how to let it rip... I remember one time, this is a cute story.. When my son was about 6 years old, I was taking a bubble bath, and my ex was helping him get ready to take a bath in our other bathroom.. I had my eyes closed and was just reclining in the bath relaxing.. Well wouldn't you know.. all of a sudden, I hear this little pfftttt next to my head.... I opened my eyes and looked out and saw my naked little boy trotting out of the bathroom... He came in there to fart on me! LOL... He also used to use the excuse of sitting on my lap to tell me how much he loved me, being all cuddly and stuff..... then I'd feel this little vibration on my leg and I'd try to push him off, but he'd hang on and not let me...We'd both be cracking up... LOLOL... He was so sneaky... I think it's SORT of good though, he's not embarassed to let em roll if he needs to, but I hope he doesn't do that to his girlfriends or future wife.. At least till he really get's to know them.. lolol...

They sell really good fermented sauerkraut in the refridgerated section of health food stores. I've been buying the probiotic pickles at whole foods.

Cabbage, freshly juiced, sends me to the toilet. Good if you're constipated which I've gotten sometime. Now I do alternatives.
