Lialda Vs Sulfasalazine

My Dr told me to change from sulfasalazine to Lialda which is much more $$. Has anyone had more luck in getting into remission with Lialda. I thought they were both basically same. I have been on max dose of Sulfasalazine for more than a month and i have not been able to get into remission with it. Been having mild case for 3 months, after being in remission for 20 YEARS!!! I am beginning to think my Dr is a quack. Guess he should have put me on steroids first. With me i am prone to have blood clot in leg witch i just had. This disease sucks ,

I started on Lialda after being on ASACOL for 3 years and have been experiencing a flare for almost 90 days.  I think the VSL# 3 really helped initiate the remission, but Lialda helped maintain. I'm in remission now!

give it a try. It might be what you need. If not, you can always go back or try other options

i tried lialda i think a cpl years ago it didnt do much for me but i was also in a bad flare, i have been on sulfa for quiet awhile and it works well for me but i dont think it alone helps me as im also taking humira, but every one is different, so what worked for me might not work for you.

I think it is worth a shot. It's probably the most simple solution if it gets you into remission. I don't know why Lialda would help if the Sulfzsalazine doesn't but it's a better option than jumping to Prednisone if you can avoid it. Have you tried rectal meds?

maybe i should be on rectal meds instead. My Dr did not even mention this as option yet. Its probably the better option. In fact my Dr did not even look at my colon. I think he figures that since i had a colonoscopy last June, and it looked normal then why have have one now. He does not even know what part is inflamed! I guess he should have given me a sigmoidoscopy at the very least. The care out here is not very good. After being in remission for 20 years and now having a flare for three months it feels like having it for 20 years now. I guess I should be more patient.

You should be on rectal meds anyway. Use them firstly with the sulfasalazine...then if it's not enough, switch to the Lialda in conjunction with the enemas.
