Enemas causing weight gain?

about a month ago I came off a round of prednisone, and worked really hard to get rid of the extra weight I had put on and the puffy face.  I started on hydrocort enemas about two weeks ago, and suddenly all of the weight is back on! I'm so upset because I thought that there would not be the weight gain side effects with the enemas.  Has anyone else had weight gain with enemas? I'm so upset!cry

I haven't gained weight but I am on the cort enemas and haven't been sleeping well so maybe some of that stuff gets into the blood stream.

I've been on cortifoam millions of times over the yrs and never once gained an ounce of weight from it...it doesn't go into your blood stream like oral pred does, which is also why most people don't get any side effects from it.

Since you were just on pred and now on the cortenemas, yes...it's probable your weight gain is because of them.

Are you using them once a day?

You could consider to ask the doc for lower dosage steroid enemas such as proctofoam.

There are people who are sensitive to steroid meds, and yes...you can get the same side effects. Some obviously don't feel them at all, which is awesome.

Can you not take any of the 5ASA enemas such as Rowasa or ilk?

I'm taking them once a day.  I've taken Rowasa before, but I started taking these enemas because the oral pred was not working for me anymore, so I think the doctor wanted me on something stronger than Rowasa.  I'm worried because if these don't work he says the next step is doing injections, which I guess is Remicade? Very nervous about that, and hoping there might be other options before I go that route, but so far the enemas are not working sad  I've had proctitis for 10 years, and every time i've had a flare up the pred has worked right away. This is the first time I haven't been able to get in remission.

I always had the prednisone side effects with the hydrocortisone enemas, but to a lesser degree.

acgirl...are you also on any oral 5ASA meds?

I think you should still try the Rowasa again...maybe alternate with the steroid enemas.

RIght now I'm taking Asacol, 6 pills a day, the hydro enemas, and in the morning I'm doing hydrocort suppositories.  I am willing to try anything to avoid the injections.  My flare is not even that bad, just can't get the bleeding to stop.  I see my doctor next week, so any suggestions/alternatives are appreciated.
