Prep for colonoscopy since they took Fleets off the market??????

I have been scoped 5 times so far and I was always told to have a liquid diet for 1 to 2 days before the procedure then take 2 laxative pills wait 2 hours then take 2 more then after 4 hours drink the Fleets.  I have heard the Go-Lite (I think that is what it is called) is like a gallon worth of yuckie to gag down.  Is there any trick that makes it easier to take or is there another prep that is easier and less gaggy.  I am due to be scoped again this month.  confused

The Go-Lite wasn't so bad. I was given a pill to take with it and I seemed to be prepared enough to proceed with the colonoscopy.

It does taste bad. The first time I used it I throw us half way thought the bottle. The second time I mixed in lemon Gatorade mix and it made it drinkable. Just don't use any Gatorade mix that has red or pink.

I've only had Fleet once and it was the worst experience ever. Talk about a horrible taste. I thought I was drinking acid.

Every other prep I've had has been better, hands down. Movi-Prep and Nulytely were probably the best...it's a lot to drink but if you don't eat much tghe day before, you usually don't have to drink all of it.

I use osmoprep now which is just a bunch of pills you have to take with water :)

I took Movi-Prep for my scope last week. I had a really hard time with the nausea it caused me. I did a lot better with the fleet stuff but then again I wasn't flaring during that prep so it might have been a factor. If you get the Movi-prep make each batch a few hours before your times so you can chill it. That does seem to help.

I used the Movi-prep on my last one and it really isn't that bad. It still has a bit of a funky flavor but it didn't make me feel nauseas as much as the other preps I've used. The trick is to drink it cold and thru a straw with a side shot of something with flavor (but with no dark dyes).

You've had Uc since 2002 and you've been scoped 5 times already? Why so many in such a short time?

What prep does your GI recommend?  That's what I would go with.  And follow the guidelines.  Just because you don't eat much the day before doesn't mean you can skimp on the prep.  The colon holds waste for 24-72 hours so eating lightly 24 hours prior doesn't accomplish much.

I was so dehydrated before each test all of it tasted good including cat scan bubbly drink, you should have seen the look on the nurses face when I knocked that drink back, never understood why they call it go lightly as there is not much lightly about it.

     I use the Colyte too.  I believe it is called Nulitely.  I eat lightly two days prior to taking the prep.  I usually only have to drink about 1/3 of the jug before I see clear fluid coming out.  Just make sure it is CLEAR before stopping the prep.  By eating lightly, I mean a soft boiled egg for breakfast, clear broth and lemon jello for lunch and dinner.  Popsicles that aren't dark colored are fine too.  I am due for my scope on the 12th of March but currently flaring and back on prednisone.  The doctor doesn't like to perform the colonoscopy while I am on prednisone, he said there is a greater risk for perforation/infection.

My first prep last August was a liquid diet the whole day before, then a 238g bottle of miralax mixed into 64 oz of lemon lime gatorade.  Drink an 8 oz glass every 15 minutes until gone.  The miralax did alter the taste of the gatorade slightly but it was nowhere near as bad as the GoLytely I had to drink years ago.  This is MY doctor's preferred prep.  Suebear is right though, go with what YOUR GI recommends.  What's good for us may not be good for you.

Check your gastro's prep instructions first. You could run Half-lytely prep by him/her if it is not recommended outright. That cuts required liquid-drinking, which you fear most. There have been kidney issues with some of the preps-- so for sure, you want to avoid any solution known to cause harm to the urinary tract. It seems from what I've read that Half-Lytely & Miralax/Gatorade are recommended by the more cautious gastros who keep up with latest research. But it's never fun getting ready for a c-scope, whatever the prep ... (sigh) / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

my first colonoscopy I was given a bunch of pills to swallow with water take 4 15m 4 more repeat untill pills are gone(20) by the 3rd round I was pooing and my stomach felt awful after round 4 I threw up and there was some blood in it something ive never experienced before. 2nd colonoscopy Fleet which was awful tasting. 3rd colonoscopy I drank a small bottle of carobnated laxative that wasnt bad at all. This time upcoming mid march i was given the gallon jug of lemon mix stuff, i hope they dont expect me to drink the whole thing i dont drink a gallon of anything in an entire day i weigh 120lbs 8 lbs of laxative would kill me.

My GI has me use two fleet enemas about an hour to an hour and a half before coming in for a sigmoidoscopy/colonoscopy.

I just used the Miralax/Gatorade prep last week for a colonoscopy and it was a piece of cake!!!
Ive had many colonoscopies in my day and I've always said the prep was worse than the procedure. Other than getting a little nauseated from drinking so much of the Gatorade mix so quickly, it really was much easy to stomach and get down than the old preps. My GI's office said that more and more offices are going this route as more people are tolerating it better.

I personally think the Miralax has no taste what so ever, so it went down pretty easy.

In response to Sherry, I was told that anyone with U.C. has a 20% increase risk of getting colon cancer so I needed to be scoped every other year. They also scoped me more often when I was at Cleveland Clinic and I was going threw a clinical trial. Has anyone else been told they need scoped every other year or is the doctor just making $$$$$ for himself?

My GI said once you hit the 10-year mark, you need c-scopes every 1-2 years, depending on how well you're managing your disease. After I had my first (which was when I was diagnosed in January 09) I think he said I wouldn't have to have another until 5 years, unless I was having a lot of problems. I can understand you having a lot due to the trial, but just as a routine thing, I think it's excessive at this point to be doing them yearly.

3 or 4 years into UC, I skipped a year because I was pregnant (and completely in remission) and the next year they found an adenoma - so they did a follow-up scope a few months later and then annually since then.
So far no more adenomas or other abnormalities.

Yeah, I can understand the frequent scoping while in a trial but I agree as maintenance, once a year is bit much. I'm past 10 years so I go every 2 years but before then I was going every 5 years with sigmoidoscopies in between.

My next one is 3 years out.

When they found polyps (pre-cancerous) in my wife, they removed them and said we'll see you in 3 years because even if they come back it is a slow moving process. 

So I've always heard 3 years, but then again that was before finding out about this miserable condition.

I thought the Miralax prep was a cinch too - SO much better than that enormous jug of stuff. When I had my last scope I was so sick from being on the Flagyl I didn't want to eat for almost a week, so the 'light clear fluid' diet wasn't too bad. :)

LOL,I was thinking the same thing. Maybe change name to explode-alot, gag-it-down or u-wont-makit..... Even just keep it simple... colon-tired, pooped-abunch and my fav O-M-G.

I did Miralax and Crystal Light (so as not to drink all the sugar in the Gatorade since my sugar was already high from prednisone at the time). Miralax has no taste to me

I was watching a movie called Ghost Town and the guy had to have a c-scope and he decribed it as a terrorist attach. That about sums it up for me too.
