My doctor has me on 60 mg. Taking all 60 in the morning. I know I need to consult him with this before I try and change it, but has anyone been on a split dose before? The reason I ask is that I do fine most of the day but by 7-8 pm diarrhea starts up and then by the early AM hours I am having severe diarrhea and cramping and pain until an hour or two after my next dose. At night I am extremely sleepy but getting no sleep and can't sleep during the day because I'm wired. So I'm just thinking I'd do better with an AM and PM dose. It might give me some insomnia but that would be better than what's happening now...

My doctor lets me use my own judgement. I do better splitting my dose. Right now I am on 40 mgm. I take 20 in the morning and 20 at lunch time. I also have issues with high blood pressure and prednisone increases that tremendously. I have to double up on my pressure meds and take a water pill. I still get insomnia and have to resort to the Ambien CR..ugh.

A long time ago I was also having trouble later in the day, and he let me split it.
I think the morning dosing is intended to allow you to sleep at night better, so beware!

I had the same thing happen to me and split the dose between morning and evening. Worked much better and relieved my symptoms around the clock. I still had some other side effects but for me splitting the dose was essential.

My dr. said no problem splitting it. It's just for sleep reasons that I take all mine in the morning when I'm on it. Maybe you could split it but not in half, taking more in the morning and the afternoon one is just to tide you over until the morning again?

I was on 60mg too and I split 30 in am and 30 at dinner. The doctor recommended Unisom over the counter sleeping pills to sleep. They are the same as Benydril but in a gel form so they make most people sleepy faster.

I have been up to 60mgs twice, down to 40, 30, 20m ,10 and now 5. I have always tried to split the dosage in 1/2 to AM and PM, just to try and minimize the side effects a bit. Seems to help...
