Has anyone used APRISO? Any side affects? My GI wants me to try it – it’s 4 pills once a day as opposed to Asacol all day long.

I'm on it, and I love it. I was in remission when I switched from taking 12 Asacol a day (split over three doses) to four Apriso (once a day). I didn't have an side effects from Asacol and I haven't had any from Apriso.

So, whats the difference between Apriso and Lialda? I'm going to be starting one or the other in a bit here and I can't seem to figure out which to ask for!

Apriso is actually a lower doseage of mesalamine that Lialda or Asacol, in terms of what the daily maximum dose is (4 pills of Apriso and Lialda, 12 of Asacol). I asked my doc why the doseage of Apriso was so much lower, and he said it's because it (theoretically) disperses/dissolves/etc more effectively in the colon, so a lower doseage works. Whether that's actually true or not is another story. Whatever the case, I'm doing really well on it. I switched in July (or maybe June...can't remember exactly), and I've maintained a really solid remission. I'm also using mesalamine enemas twice weekly, which I believe helps.
I am a bit worried about
when I flare again, that the Apriso won't have enough mesalamine to kick me into remission, so I wonder if I'd maybe switch to Asacol when I flare.

I notice that my gastro, who subspecializes in IBD treatment & has ca. 30 yrs of experience with our issues, avoids Lialda & prescribes Apriso since it came on the market. That seems to indicate a lack of trust in Lialda ... (?) / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I used to be on Asacol for several years......went over to Apriso - have been flaring for quite some time now even before I switched meds. When I went on Apriso I seemed to get a little constipated and pains in my stomach - I only stayed on it for two weeks and decided I wasn't any better and went completely off the pills. I've done a few Canasa to see if that would help my flare - with no luck. So now I just went back on Apriso to see if I can get this flaring to stop.
I do have some hydrocortisone rectal suspension 100mg/60 mL I'm thinking of starting - do you think that would help and if so how often do you think I should do them?
Sometimes when I'm at work - I get those pains and needless to say I spend quite a bit of time in the bathroom. I try to stay calm - because I do believe this Disease has a lot to do with stress.
Any info on this type of enema would be helpful.
