Anyone currently enrolled in Vedolizumab (MLN0002) trial?

I am scheduled to start the research trial in the next few weeks. I've gone through all the paperwork too and I'm waiting for all the initial screening tests to come back first. Are you going to try it?

I was on it (here in New Zealand) but I had a reaction (rash on face which turned out to be Rosacea) and had to be taken off the trial. I have just had my first Remicade infusion after a week in hospital with a nasty flare...I wish you all the best

CFG I note with interest you are on doxycycline

I blame that antibiotic for my onset of UC

I took it once a day for 6 months in Africa to prevent malaria. Prescribed in Australia.

In South Africa a doctor I saw for a vitamin B shot looked at me in horror when i said i was on it. Told me it doesn't even work for malaria. I should have been on malarone. Told me it would screw up my gut. I trusted the Australian doctors but clearly I shouldn't have.

I understand UC needs an underlying genetic predisposition but it also needs a trigger

And i have found that repopulating my gut with bacteria has brought me back to normal again. Lots and lots of varied probiotics.

So that makes me even more suspicious of the doxy.

Have you and lookingforhealing, who is only 26, tried completely resting your colon and taking probiotics? It worked for me

of course that doesn't mean it *would* work for you - but one day if you want to it might be worthwhile trying?

this is what i did -

I ate nothing for a couple of days (i couldn't anyway i was passing blood and mucous and in crippling pain)

after a while of no food it settled down a little.

I drank lots of water.

then i graduated to soup and porridge with iron tablets for anaemia. at the same time i started taking about 5 different brands of probiotics, with as many different bacteria strains as possible. The refrigerated ones from the chemist - morning and night, one tablet of each brand.

I ate nothing but soup and porridge and vitamin pills for about a month.

it really rested the colon.

I am now back to normal!

every now and then i'll eat something the colon doesn't like... sundried tomatoes, capsicum

it tells me and i avoid that food for a while.

can't guaranee it won't come back or it would be good for everyone, but it worked for me and I'm not on sulfa drugs - and i'm still OK and now we are in mid March

Looking for Healing - I have been on the MLN0002 trial since January.  I am doing quite well on it, though not in remission. But, that would be asking a hell of a lot!

I am now into the maintenance phase. At week 0 I had moderate inflammation.  Now, I have mild.

Queen of the Colon:  Wow, I was amazed to see that Doxycycline also triggered your UC.  It also did the same to me!  I took it for a week for an infection, which it turned out I did not even have.  I then lay in bed bleeding to death and was hospitalised for 4 weeks and had to fight to keep my colon.  Things have never been the same since, and that was 10 years ago.

Horrible, nasty antibiotic.
