how long does asacol 6 pills a/day take to work???? and stop the bleeding??? 1 day or 1 week or how long.....?

any answers will be helpful!!!!idea

mild uc diagnosed in dec.2009 left-sided colitus

asacol 6 pills a/day just started on friday currently having formed bowels 2-3 times a day (wich is perfect for me) and no urgency or diareah just blood not bloodclots just red blood when i wipe. also about 5% of my bowels are loose & watery, but not a lot so not worried about that. ONLY BLOOD. will the asacol help me?? yeah

For me, Asacol has been a maintenance drug.  My GI doc prescribes it for me to help keep me in remission longer and to lessen the severity of flares.  I believe that once I am in a flare(urgency, bleeding, etc.), that I need something stronger, like prednisone.  I think that prednisone will better treat and heal inflammation than just Asacol alone.

I would call your GI doc and let them know about your symptoms.

It's a treatment and maintenance medication. It took me a few months for the bleeding to eventually subside. But, I was put on Asacol AND I MUST STRESS retention enemas (Salofalk...I'm in Canada).

Your rectum will not heal from Asacol alone, so, if above the rectum is bleedng, that will eventually heal, but you'll probably still have rectal symptoms.

Please ask the doctor for the retention enemas....Rowasa if you're in the US.

Both ends approach.
