What part of the colon deals with how formed your stools are?

I've noticed that in this flare my stools haven't been formed and if I do go it's once every 2 days.  What form of the colon deals with this?  During my colonoscopy on Friday my doctor said it was my rectum that looked inflamed and prescribed me something to treat that.  Will treating the rectal area help my stools become formed again (right now it's really just liquidy stuff coming out) or do you think it's another part of my colon that is causing this?

Yes, it will help.

The colon above the sigmoid basically forms the stool....but with it loose it should be somewhat formed especially with you going only every two days.

Are you eating regularly? What in general are you eating?
Sometimes the foods we consume might not have enough substance to even form a stool...

I would suggest you consider a fibre supplement and a probiotic.

When do you go back for the biopsy results?

Yep it's the cortifoam. My flare started about 3 weeks ago with the stools remaining to be formed until about a week ago. It was just blood coming out then and then I had my colonoscopy prep and anything but formed stools then! I've been eating regularly since then and I feel like when I go to the bathroom it's still the type of stuff that was coming out during my prep and don't know if that still is not out of my system. At least it's not bloody (I think the Cortifoam def helped with that) but I'm hoping it will make me go normally! My stomach has been rumbling nonstop last night and this morning.

I take it you can't use any 5ASA meds such as ASacol?


If your rectum is very inflamed and bleeding, you won't have much stool, mostly mucus with blood for a few days after the scope until your colon starts producing a stool...should be today or tomorrow. Maybe scant stool pieces, more urgency and frequency


You just started the enemas....give it at least a week. If you don't improve at all, call the doc.
You should ask him for antispasmodics....I use dicyclomine. the lowest dosage for you to start would be helpful.

I've tried every medicine since I was diagnosed (Asacol, Suppositories, Pred, 6MP, Cyclosporine) and failed. Remicade has been the only thing that put me in a long remission and the doctor thinks it's just my rectal area that is causing me to flare and this should help so I'm praying that's the case since I start a new job this Wed! Thank you soo much for everything, it means a lot! It's great to be able to get advice without making my doctor feel like I'm harassing him with all my questions!

You're welcome.

Sounds like the extra stress of a new job will exacerbate issues. Hope the cortifoam helps.
The steroid also comes in suppositories.

Hope you feel much better after the job starts.
