Every once in a while I or another mod will throw out a fun thread.  And this time, the fun thread is going to be about YOU.  Not your Uc or your symptoms but YOU as a person.  What do you like? What kind of work do you know?  Do you have any animals? Read? Garden? Mountain climb? Basically anything you feel comfortable sharing is OK!  smilewinkgrin

I will get the ball rolling: I am 40 years old, from Michigan, been married for almost 21 years, I have an 18 year old son who is graduating in June and a 14 year old daughter who constantly gives me gray hair.  I also have a lot of animals because I LOVE animals...2 crazy quirky dogs, 2 birds, 2 rats, a turtle and a goldfish.  I used to have more but my husband finally put his foot down! LOL 

I don't work right now because I find that when I do, the stress activates my Uc but before I used to be a Payroll Accountant-a job in which I loved!!!  In my spare time I love to read - my nose is always in a book but when the weather is nice I love to get my hands dirty and garden or ride on my hubby's Harley DynaGlide.  We take the bike out any chance we get and just get lost.  We go up to my in laws cottage a lot in the summer which is 2 1/2 hours away and it's on a river.  We have a pontoon boat that we take out frequently just to cruise or fish.  I LOVE fishing!  My hubby......eh not so much! lol  Oh and four wheelin'!  I love taking the quads out to the trails.

I'm 20, Kels, from Michigan like Red, I speak German and Chinese, like to read (Stephen King, Laurell K. Hamilton, and occassional "bathroom readers" which are generally badly written suspense/mystery stories which take place in small towns and include "romance"), and have lots of pets: a dog, two inside cats, four outside cats, two rats, and two goldfish.

I like photography, writing, music, eating, shopping video games, swimming, etc....

Also I grow cacti and I have an orchid, which is so far doing pretty well.

Red, I wish I had a boat =(

I'm Heather. I'm 22 (23 in June) and from NJ. I'm dating my college sweetheart, we've been together slightly over 3.5 years. My beloved cat recently passed but my family has two dogs, a shepherd-border collie mix and a papillon. I love animals and can't wait to get another kitty.

I studied biology in college and am going for my Ph.D in the fall...so far one acceptance, on rejection, and three schools I'm waiting on. I love doing research and have been lucky so far in that my UC hasn't flared when I have been doing field work.

I read a lot, mostly sci fi and horror but I'll stick my nose in pretty much anything if it's laying around. I'm a huge nerd and play a lot of video games and paper and pencil RPG's. I also used to do a lot of vocal performance in high school (chorale and plays) and miss it like hell...might try out for community theater this summer if I can afford it. Until then it's rock band and shower performances. Favorite bands are probably Muse, Panic! at the Disco, Dresden Dolls, and the Foo Fighters. Favorite plays are Les Miserables and Into the Woods.

    I'm John, 54 years old and single.  Currently the only work I'm doing is as a fly fishing guide.  I'm also a licensed real estate broker, but I've put my license on ice due to my impeccable timing (I was licenced apprx. four years ago).  I've spent most of my adult life in the restaurant business.  I was the general manager and part owner of a fine dining establishment featuring fresh seafood, prime beef, fowl, lamb and wild game for about twentyfive years.  That party got old but I still love to cook! 

    I love animals.  I recently lost my second dog, a beautiful Springer Spaniel mix to lymphoma.  She was my go everywhere, do everything together companion.  I'm not quite ready for a new one.  Soon maybe???

    I don't really know if this is "fun" to share, however it's a very important part of my life.  I got sober about 17 years ago.  I spend quite a bit of time working with other alcoholics and tryiing to practice the principals that Bill W. set down for us. 

    I was born in Denver (at a young age) and moved to Durango in 1987.  I've also lived in Crested Butte, Gunnison and Telluride.  I guess I'm just a Colorado mountain hick.  That's enough from me.  It's funny, I often try to put a face to the names on this board and these posts will definately help!

My name is Tiffany, I am twenty-seven years old and from Saskatchewan, Canada. I am a full time student and have one year left before I finish university with a Bachelor's in Social Work. I switched majors four years into university and cannot wait to be finished school! I have no plans to go back for a Masters degree, but if I do, it will not be for some time. I have no children and have been with my fiance for five years this coming May. It's been a long distance relationship from the beginning, as he is from (and lives - until this June, that is) in the U.K. We will be wed in August of this year.

Hmmm, what else...I love music, my absolute favorites being Hole and Tori Amos. I love to read, love celebrity gossip, fashion, and vintage clothing (pretty much anything vintage, but especially clothing) and am extremely close to my mom, sister, and nephew. I have two gerbils (two recently passed away) and my fiance and I may be taking my sister's black pug, Boris, this summer. I love Boris, but have reservations about how much he sheds! Gerbils do not leave hair everywhere *L*

My name is Justin, and I'm a 26 year old from North Carolina. I'm a mechanical engineer by training and when I finished school came to work with my parents (http://www.precisiontool.com). (This isn't advertising, none of you would want to buy anything we sell anyway.:))

I have been dating my fiancee for six years and we have been engaged for three, hopefully to be married soon. She has a great golden retriever named Roscoe. I'm a big fan of music and listen to all kinds. My favorite band of all time is Within Temptation. Others include Nightwish, Leave's Eyes, Sirenia, Octavia Sperati, Third Day, Sanctus Real, Relient K, and Anberlin.

When I'm not working I'm usually either jogging, reading, or playing some type of computer or video games. The all time greatest video game (not my opinion, but a scientific fact) is Civilization. Second would be Command and Conquer.

Books I am reading right now: Speaks the Nightbird, about a colonial witch trial, Everything's Eventual by Stephen King, Chainfire by Terry Goodkind, and Christ Plays in Ten Thousand places, a book on theology. My favorite author would be Dean Koontz.

I just turned 50 a month ago, am female, an artist, and have been working as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Art History for the past 9 years. My job is ending in a little over a month. I have my BA in Art and Religious Studies and my MFA in Sculpture. I have one cat, Meredith. I am a single parent with a 21 year old daughter graduating from college in May with a BFA in Drawing. I have never been married and consider myself to be very independent and a bit of a loner. I sometimes wish I lived off in the woods away from the world; however, I love the water and sometimes wish I lived on the beach (I grew up partially living on the beach). I live in NC but may be moving within the next year if I find my "dream job". First I have to figure out what it is. Part of me would like to live near the city, possibly Washington, DC, where I could develop a larger audience for my art. Obviously I am a bit lost as to where I should be living! I tell my students I use to be a punk rocker back in the 80's, when I saw the Ramones, had a shaved head, and got my tattoos. I consider myself a non-conformist.

EP, I had always wanted a boat too and we still wouldn't have it but my Gma bought it for us....yeah I'm spoiled like that! lol

I love hearing about the lives of the people we "meet" here everyday. I think it makes us even more connected just by knowing who the person is behind the screen name.

I'm Amy, 33 from Kentucky.  I've lived in Kentucky all my life though in a couple different places.  I've been married for 11 years and have 3 kids ages 8, 4 and 2 (so I don't have freaking time for UC)!

I am mostly a stay at home mom except for this time of year when I work part time for my in-laws with their greenhouse business and I also do their bookkeeping.  Before I had kids I worked for an Architectural firm (this is what my major in college was) in Louisville and I enjoyed it very much.  But I just couldn't keep up that pace with the kids so I decided to stay home with them.

Hobbies:  I love to read anything, anytime!  I also love to scrapbook my kids and vacations.  I also enjoy my flower gardens (this came with the working in the greenhouse).

We live on a 25 acre farm with a horse, donkey, dog, cat and chickens.

So that's me in a nutshell.

I love this thread!  I am 52 years "young" and have been married for 28 years.  I have 2 wonderfu children - a daughter 26 and a son 23.  My son recently got engaged, so I will get another daughter. I have lived in Kentucky all my life and have taught for 28 years.  I have a twin sister who lives 2 hours away and we talk on the phone at least 3 times a day - she is my best friend.  I love to shop, read books that don't require a lot of thinking, and visit with my close friends.  I have a group of 7 friends from grade school and we have been going on "girl's" trips for 22 years:).  I really don't have an exciting life since I am not an adventurous person, but I am happy and getting healthier everyday.

I'm Sue and I am 51. I am a native of California and love my poor struggling state! I am a SINK (single income, no kids) and have 2 cats. I am the Director of a large business (250 employees). I love to hike and hike in the hills every weekend as well as internationally once per year. I am also a gym enthusiast and can be found there every day after work. I sometimes quilt, am an avid reader who cannot be separated from my KINDLE! I mentor a lot of UCers going through surgery either via my surgeon's office or those I have met online. I stay active in jpouch meetings/get-togethers in both southern and northern California. Oh, and I love my ZUNE too!

Hi!  I am definitely the senior here, I think!  I will be 70 in June!  I have been married to a wonderful Army retiree for 49 years.  We traveled and lived around the world - Japan and Germany among them.

We have two sons and four grandchildren.  One son lives near and the other in Chicago.  Don't see any of them enough.

We had an RV, boat and enjoyed them but sold them due to health.  My husband is courageous and has COPD, lung cancer and congestive heart failure.  He is doing great and in remission!

We love traveling when we are not sitting in our recliners watching tv.  Every afternoon when home we watch the ABC soaps and discuss them.  We want to write one of our own LOL!

I do enjoy the computer and do all my own photography - especially flowers and "critters".  Also, I enjoy shopping when I can get out.  I need two knee replacements and been waiting to have UC somewhat under control to have them done.

Hi everyone!
I am a newly turned 31 (YIKES!!) year old mother of a gorgeous 5 month old son. I have been married to the most wonderful man for 2.5 years, dated for 4 yrs before we got married. We live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada but I am originally from Toronto. I am an elementary school teacher and last year before I went on maternity leave I was teaching grade 4 but I love, love, love teaching grade 2- it's my fave! We have a mini schnauzer who is a big part of our family. Prior to becoming pregnant I was an avid exerciser but during pregnancy I couldnt make it to the gym, or even really go for walk- i felt so sick :( I also really enjoy crafting, I always have. I like a good mystery or horror movie every now and then. I have a huge collection of scary movies ranging from old cheesy ones to recent flicks. I just kind of hate how they seem to be remaking all the old horror movies these days. At the moment I am starting to read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan.

I really appreciate being able to come on here and talk with all you diverse wonderfully caring people.

I'm Sam (short for Samantha). I'm 21 and I'm from Minnesota. I'm in my junior year of college working on my BS in medical technology (clinical laboratory science) and I've got two years left, one on campus and one in a clinical school.
I'm really close to my family. My brothers are both married and one has two kids so I LOVE finally having sisters and being an auntie to Josh, age 5 and Alyssa, age 16 months. I have two silly shetland sheepdogs, Jackson and Priscilla. I've been with my high school sweetheart (even though he wasn't in high school when we met) for 4.5 years and he's been the best through it all.
I'm not really one for hobbies but I do like music. I love The Shins and most indie alternative stuff. Once I'm done with school and get established I'd really like to become a foster home for MN Sheltie Rescue and take care of doggies until they find their forever homes. I've got a bit of a Coach "collection" that is forever expanding because I have an addiction! tongue

My name is Nate, I'm 45 years old and I live in Saratoga County, New York. I have an awesome daughter named Maisie who lives with me during the week. She lives with nutty cracker-oops her Mother on the weekends. I never felt a need to get divorced, much to wifey's chagrin, but what the heck she works in the public schools which as we all know from our property taxes have great insurance.
I have owned my own small lawncare service for the last 15 years which allows me a ton of free time to spend with Maisie. We enjoy reading,camping, and the NY Giants. We also spend a lot of time at the family farm a bit further north, trying to keep it up as my elderly parents still live there.
Thanks for having this forum-it makes one realize that they aren't the only ones with this wacky disease.

I am a stay at home mummy to 2 girls ones almost 4 the other 18 months, we live in Kent, England, have a dog Golden Retirever who we bought in America (we lived in Indiana for 3 years while my husband was racing Indy Cars) she is alot bigger than the goldens here in England ... shes a fuzz ball ! x
We own a property development company, buy do up and sell on.
My Hubby and I like spending time with our girls, and familys, motor sport is a big thing still, but we dont go racing anymore! We love fishing and taking the girls on holidays ! xx

Hello! I'm Jen I live in So. California with my husband and 2 year old daughter. When life is normal I'm a stay at home mom and part time student. Trying to figure out what I want to be when my little one goes off to pre-school! I have a BA degree in film but don't know if I'll ever use for anything other than getting all philosophical during discussions about movies. I love all kinds of movies. I am a Geek. I love computer games and Sci-fi. I'm also a girly girl who loves sewing, make up, shoes and purses. :o)

So I am Laura, I am 34 (I'll be 35 in May) and I am from Maryland. I am a stay at home mom now to 2 girls, 16 months apart-the oldest will be 5 in June and the youngest is 3.5. My hubby and I have been together 16 years off and on, 13 officially and this year will be 10 years married. My hubby is an engineer and works outside of DC.

I have a background in music-I am a singer, and when I was younger wanted to pursue it. I wanted to go to Julliard, but my parents shot that idea down, and I eventually decided to go a different route and ended up as an Elementary Ed major/Music minor in college. I don't regret that choice because even though I do have the vocal talent for it, I never truly had the drive-that is a tough and stressful career choice! I am not an instrumentalist, however. My mom and dad are both excellent pianists, so I always had built in accompanists. I was lazy and didn't practice. BIGGEST.regret.ever. I will probably force my kids into piano lessons.

I went back for my Master's after college and got that in Library Science with a School Library Media Specialty. I wish I had done the Archives specialty, but it was another 2 years of school (it was a double masters), and I didn't want to do that, lol. So prior to having kids, I was a School Library Media Specialist in an elementary school. I quit a year before we had our first so we could travel, because teaching always limited us to summers and we had some places we wanted to go before having babies that were not summer spots.

I LOVE to cook!! I cook differently now that I have kids, but it has always been an interest of mine, and I really enjoy it. I wish I had a better kitchen for it. I used to have a couple other hobbies I no longer do (mostly because of the kids and not having space and/or time to do the hobbies anymore)-cheesemaking, mosaicing and stained glass. My hubby is an avid beer brewer, and he and his brother have a vineyard on his dad's farm, which is about 5 minutes from our house. They have had that for maybe 6 years now? It is a work in progress-and MD is not the best grape growing climate, but they have made a couple of decent wines!

We don't have any animals. We live in a townhouse and I just can't stomach having animals in a small space. But my in laws have farm animals and a dog, and lots of the neighbors have dogs, so my kids get plenty of exposure to animals. Not that it keeps them from begging for either a puppy, a kitten or a baby brother/sister of their own...

As you can see-I have no trouble sharing, lol. I am a bull headed Taurus, and I adore my job of being a mom. It is hard work some days, but I really love it. If I didn't have UC, I would have at least one or two more kids by now. Because of the UC, I figure I'll be lucky to have one more. Such is life, huh? I would love nothing more than to stay home and do the mom thing forever!

I think this is a cool idea.  I did a thread to introduce myself awhile back, but I'll add here if that's ok.

I'm Mike, 43, mine and my wife's kids are grown, I have lived in AZ for almost 10 years already.  My youngest is making me a *cough* grandpa already and I am still trying to figure this UC stuff out.

I grew up in Ohio.  Joined the USAF and got moved to KY and then UT.  I was in for 10 years.

Anyway, I work for a company called Freescale Semiconductor which used to be a part of Motorola.  I could tell you I am a maintenance technician, or that I am responsible for many of the microchips in your electronic devices and cars.  If you don't mind to watch a short music video might make my explanation a bit easier.......

I repair, maintain and operate virtually all of the equipment you see making wafers (which is where microchips come from) just not "those" exact machines.  Yes I have to wear that suit, but with a regular hood, not a helmet.  Wtihout getting into it to much I think you will see some of the frustration I may face.  I work a compressed work week, 3 on 3 off 4 on 4 off, 12 hour shifts, 5 pm to 5 am.

I will post a link to my website, which has become one of my hobbies, to show you one of my other hobbies.  Yes I sell stuff I make there but this is NOT an intent to make a sale or an add.  Actually part of the reason I have this website was just to showcase my work where ever I am, and I turned my hobby into a business and I get to write it all off.  My tax guy loves me!  So here is my other hobby which is a GREAT stress reliever.  Especially my built in book shelves.

Hi, I am a gardener (yes-the name is true), a photographer (career), painter (hobby), tennis player (fun), RV tripper (it's got a bathroom!).
We live south of Sarasota on the west coast of Florida, love it except it takes so long to get out of the state when travelling :-)

I've had UC for 10 years but been in denial of how bad my condition was for about 5 of those years. I love to cook and have a great husband who goes along with whatever my current diet is. I'm 50-something and we've been together over 30 years. No kids and our dog died 3 years ago.

One of my big peeves is that UC has made travel more difficult (thats why we got the RV 3 years ago). But since we don't really like flying maybe that's OK.

I don't have a large garden but I love it just the same. Florida's growing season is October through May so my vegetable growing is just winding down. Tomatoes are on the plants and the last cabbage and collards are being eaten. We had a bad winter with abnormal freezing but only the really tropical stuff died. Bananas looked dead but all survived and 2 put out fruit that will be ripe in the late summer.
I especially love growing old-fashioned rose bushes (not hybrid teas), bamboo and plants that butterflies are attracted to.

We live near the Gulf and our small town is very middle class, the way we like it.

I'm 39, will turn 40 in September- which freaks me out a bit, but not too badly considering I just got carded trying to buy a pack of cigs the other day! Yes! smile  I live on Cape Cod currently, & have been there for 4 years now. Prior to that, I lived in Boston for about 10+ years. I have one child, a 6 1/2 year old daughter, & her Dad & I have been together since 2000, married in 2004 when our daughter was 2 years old. I work at a non-profit health clinic for homeless people, & have been working in the non-profit healthcare field for over a decade, either in direct patient care or admin. work. I love it! I work PT right now, & have no idea when/if I'll go back to FT, what with being a Mom & having UC- I get TIRED some days! I didn't go to college- well, went to a community college for one year, then dropped out & spent the next 3 years following the Grateful Dead around the country, a deadhead to the end. So, it's safe to assume I like their music! But, I also love Social Distortion, the Ramones, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, country music in general, Bruce Springsteen, Rancid.... a lot of stuff. I haven't been to see a live band in a looong time, not since before my daughter was born- while living in the city you could find me in one of 2 places- a bar or a nightclub. Now you're more apt to see me at the beach, the playground, or in the kitchen cooking, or lying on the couch reading. I'm a voracious reader, I read everything, mostly fiction, auto-biographies, & historical fiction. I love to cook, much more so than I like to eat! I tend to cook mostly meatless dishes, with a heavy emphasis on sweets! My husband is the gardener, I deal with the produce- cooking, canning, etc. I don't regret much in my life, but I wish I had stayed in school when my parents were footing the bill! I would like to get a nursing degree someday, but I'm sort of lazy.... I've been happy, overall- but I'm a cynic & look at happiness as akin to ignorance- a fault, I know! I love to swim, will do laps for hours just to space out & truly be alone. I like to ride my bike too. Oh yes, I have 2 cats too, both free to go outside as they wish. I don't like dogs too much, in theory they're fine but in practice, not so much! I'm glad I was able to travel across America so much when I was young & basically carefree, living out of cars & such. New England will probably always be my home, born in Connecticut, lived briefly in Kentucky, then to Massachusetts for good. I tend to worry about things too much, but that's gotten better with age & experience. I LOVE classic cars & used to drive a '72 Dodge Charger & a '77 Plymouth Volare- both of which I had to give up when my daughter was born- the car seat wouldn't fit & the seat belts were all but non-existent! Someday, I'll buy another old beauty & drive with pride!

Hi, my name is Kelli, i'm 29, and i live in Kansas. I'm currently single, but i hope to find the right guy some time in the not too distant future.

I am a Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) and work full time. On my off time, (which there never seems to be enough of), i enjoy reading, watching tv/movies, playing games, tennis, and spending time with my nephews.

I love music and find that it is great at relaxing me after a hard day. While I like just about every type of music, except rap, my favorite bands are: Coheed and Cambria, Alter Bridge, and Shinedown. My mom and I just went to see Elton John and Billy Joel in concert last month. It was a fantastic concert. I also love musicals, especially broadway musicals.

I don't get on here very often, as you can probably tell by my lack of posts, but it's nice to get to know the people behind the screen names and posts. Everyone on here is very nice and helpful.

I'm 54, have been married to a great guy for almost 29 years, have two sons, 20 and 16, and two cats (who supposedly belong to my sons. But.... I've always had cats, I love them.)
I am an ordained pastor in a liberal mainline Protestant denomination and I have a "wicked" irreverent sense of humor. I was diagnosed with UC soon after my ordination and I realized I needed to work a job with more regular hours for eating and sleeping.... so I left the job I had, and went back to doing church music on a part-time basis, which I'd done as a paid job since I was 16.

I've worked increasing hours since my kids have gotten older, and I currently do a variety of pastoral tasks in addition to directing the choirs and playing the organ. And I'm one of those pastors "on call" to local funeral homes when someone unaffiliated dies and needs a funeral conducted! I find it really meaningful to relate to people in a time of grief.

And there's the occasional wedding.... so on the boards here we could do it all, from officiating to singing and playing to photography! lol

I've never let UC take up a big portion of my life; and of course my work includes a lot of reading and writing which I can do in full flare. Only once have I ever had to have services start late because of a bathroom run!

I took up voice lessons again some 12 years ago, and also started horseback riding because I'd never had the chance to do that as a kid...... I love to learn.
I teach piano and voice privately in my home, just a half-dozen or so students this year.

Sorry that I'm often wordy... occupational hazard. :-)

I'm 27 and lived in Michigan until 2 years ago when I moved to Buffalo, NY. I've been married since December 24, 2008. I have a one year old son named Damien Gage. I have a BS in political science, a JD, and I was going to school for an MSW but had to drop out this semester when my surgery became multiple surgeries and over 2 months in the hospital. I'm not sure what I will do now. I have passed the NY bar so maybe I will try to find work as an attorney. Right now I have to just focus on getting healthy before I can worry about a job.
I have 2 cats, a black short hair rescue named Boo Radley, and a lilac point Siamese named Atticus Finch. I enjoy music, reading, photography. I have 13 tattoos, almost all music related (except for one that is a Mario 3 characters :D)

     Hi!

       I'm Christine, but call me Chris.  As the 1946 telltale, I'll be 64 in August.  I'm a Jersey girl born and bred, exit 3 of the turnpike.  I love the Jersey shore, going to AC for dinner, gambling and the Comedy Club at the Borgata.

       I worked as a lab tech for many years, first in a hospital lab (where I trained) and then for an Internist/Endocrinologist.  

       My husband and I have been married since May 3, 1969 and even though hubby retired in 2000, we haven't killed each other ...yet...hehesmilewinkgrin .  I haven't worked since 94, the year both my parents became seriously ill.

       We enjoy traveling.  Started camping in a pop-up with the kids back in 78 and now we have a travel trailer.  Met many friends through our membership with Thousand Trails which we joined back in 86.  Since hubby retired we've been on seven cruises.

       We have two grown daughters, Lisa is 37, divorced seven years ago but now engaged to a wonderful man.  She has given us two super grandkids, Jessica age 13 and Shane age 9.  Linda will be 33 on May 13th, still single but dating a guy she has known since grade school.  He managed to stay single too and neither has any kids.

        In my spare time I also love to read, mostly biographies and true crime.  I love playing pinochle online and with our camping friends...oh and can't forget BINGO...don't most old ladies like bingo?  Hey...I even won $300 last Tuesday.
