what's your monthly on UC?

How much are you shelling out a month to manage this disease? Even with co-pays and such, it must be about $150 for me with meds and supplements and the occasional doctors visit, not just GI, but other docs who are managing the side effects of UC. And then there's the meds for the side effects of UC. That $150 is now that I'm somewhat stable. Before it was much higher.

It's a lot of money for me because I don't make much.

Well, $20 for Imuran, now that I'm on Rowasa (which is just for now) that's like, $15 for a month or three weeks... yogut prolly adds up... maybe roughly $25 for supplements but I think they last for more than a month.

Actually it isn't too bad for me right now. I pay $10 for a month of colazal and like $16 for 3 months of amitriptyline.
I was looking on costco.com for vsl #3 and I came across a drug price list for their pharmacy and omg am I glad my parents have good insurance. Its my effexor that's the most expensive though.

ENEMAS - 60 bucks a month
VSL- 100/ month
Salofalk- around 20 bucks a month..
other supps that are just for UC I usually buy every 3 months and its anywhere from 50-70 dollars.

right now all my rx are covered by my insurance, Thank God. So I just pay the pharmacy despensing fee, which varies from pharmacy to pharmacy but \i have a good relationship with my pharmacist and he charges me $5.00.

So, $5 a month for suppositories
$5 for a 3 month supply of salofalk tabs

But, I pay 30.00 for a months supply of my probiotic.

kweeks- why dont you try the enemas instead of the supps? just curious.

krissy- ya, I know I want to. I have an appt on april 29 with my GI , i will tell him then. But I have a scope set for may 5 so i know we will know what everything looks like then and I will be on track hopefully. I dont want to call in a rx since i am so close to an apt anyways.

ok --good plan..just asking cause we seem to have similar situs and I started witih the supps but tings just got so much better when I started enemas. I will use the supps as I start to taper off the enemas But that wont be for another month.

OK, I dont want to hijack this thread so can you tell me about your sex life and the enemas on your thread about enemas ( For those you on Enemas nightly or for maintenance) If its not too personal. I am just a little worried about that part.

stocked up with medco when i had my parents insurance on the lialda and enemas (neither of which i even use anymore)
prednisone is dirt cheap- $10/ month
6mp - $60/ month
dont normally take supplements, but happened across a buy one get one free thing so picked up a few big bottles for next to nothing

advice- have your doctor write larger prescriptions if you have a cheap copay or whatever, and just take as you really need. ex- i get a script for a high dose of prednisone, but i am on a maintenance dose. saves me from having to go to the pharmacy often, which is difficult with my schedule.

i buy the meds at a CVS, using no insurance ( i have terrible college insurance, but its cheaper this way) and using this card someone gave me - http://www.lusciniahealth.com/card.aspx

the healthy foods add up but i like to eat good regardless, and its not like im buying anything special anymore (like the $$$ vsl3)

I have a pretty good insurance so I don't really pay that much out of pocket for my precription meds but I do pay full price for my supplements: $11 Brand name co-pay and $5 for generic... But I was telling my hubby that when his job was in question a couple times in the past that I don't know what I would do if he lost his job and the insurance coverage because there is NO way we could afford my meds.

Medco or any other mail order service is a pretty good place to save money. But there are websites that can help anyone that is having trouble with paying for them. Just take a look in our resource section.
