gallstones anyone?

I now have to have an ultrasound to rule out gallstones as have been getting a lot of rightsided pain and pain under rib cage had a pelvic scan not that long ago which showed fibroids but nothing major depending on results of ultrasound to have a colonoscopy to see if u/c has spread am now waiting for appointment for ultrasound does anyone else suffer from them or had them removed just seems one thing after another lately am spending a lot of time at drs or hospital waiting rooms.

I have multiple gallstones, but thankfully they have not caused me any problems yet. I do get an occasional pain on the right side, but it's not bad enough for me wanting to go through the surgey.

My dr said that many people do have gallstones and they don't need to be removed unless you have lots of painfull episodes with them. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to get them out if they cased me pain, I think UC is causing enough pain in the first place.

The ultrasound itself is no big deal as diagnostic tests go. In U.S. the doctors will opt for gall bladder removal if it or stones look bad; they generally do the surgery now by laparoscope with incision through the navel. A colleague of mine had it done that way & was sent home from outpatient surgery the very same day. (She had gotten to the point where gall bladder started hurting every time she ate!) / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I was diagnosed with gallstones about 6 months ago.  I had one really bad episode one night - just absolute unrelenting pain on the right upper back area - which is why I went to the Doctor.   After the ultrasound (which was no big deal, a few times they had to push hard on various areas of my abdomen - probably becuase I'm overweight anyway), you could see there were about 4 big stones in there.  I haven't done anything about it yet.  The surgery is minimal, but I haven't had any more episodes, so I haven't been in any big hurry to see a surgeon.   I admit that I am also a little worried about the things I've heard regarding diarreah after the surgery.  Since my ulcerative colitis is under control, I would not like to deal with this issue again!

thanks all would rather have ultrasound than colonoscopy hopefully it's nothing to bad but given the choice i will have them removed if i have them.

If you get a truly painful gallbladder attack you will WANT it out!!  I had mine out a few years ago - four little holes - stayed overnight and back to normal in about 5 days - no narcotics for pain and the stones and gallbadder pain was gone.  They can plug up your bile duct and that is really painful.  Also, my gallbladder was diseased as seen with tests so had to be removed.  I am definitely a wimp but no problem here!

i personally think the gall bladder stone issue was a more painful than all my UC stuff. I had attacks everytime i ate. lost over 30 lbs in like 2 weeks because i could't eat. ou will notice that it will be worse when you eat fatty foods because the gall bladder stores bile and releases it when fatty foods are present to break it down. if that pathway is blocked get ready for crazy-ass pain. i had mine removed 14 years ago via laproscopic surgery and was out same day eating regular food. good luck

odd question was your bms orange/yellow colour mine seem to be after i get pain under ribs/right side then have to go to the toilet they are that colour just wondered also can be quite soft many thanks

Yes about color.  Also watch the white of your eyes for yellow - jaundice and not good.  This website has a LOT of good info for you..
