In all honesty, and I have never sugar coated issues with you, if I were you I would be far more scared of the long term damage from prednisone than I would be for surgery. You have no idea what sort of damage you are facing by staying on that drug as long as you have.

Oh I do know the damage that prednisone can do and HAS done to me already. Thank God my eyesight hasn't gotten worse. I have them checked every year because of the UC and the amount of prednisone I have been on. My GI isn't happy with me on the prednisone either. I also have full blown osteoporosis. That I DO blame on my GI doctor as he never told me to take calcium when I was first diagnosed back in 98 and placed on prednisone for the very first time. I suffered a compressed fracture of the lumbar spine in a fall back in 05, but I think anyone, even a person without osteoporosis, would have fractured their spine from the flop that I took...wooo weeee.

you know, after surgery, my eyesight got better! Not a lot better, i went from -6.75&-6.50 to -5.50&-5.25 and it got a little less blurry also.
