ok so here goes im a 26yr old female who just got diagnosed with pancolitis last month. aside from depression and anxiety from the overwhelming news im noticing side effect that i believe are from the prednisone (im also taking asacol hd 800mg 3times a day....i keep seeing little tiny flecks of light flashing around along with blurred vision, and sometimes i start to overheat and find myself profusely shaking and sweating at the same time. also does anyone every have pain in there lower spine and feet? has anyones pancreas enzymes come back a little elevated?????...since im new to this whole game i was hoping someone out there could let a little insight to the disease and any side effects they may have had with meds...thanks so much! =)

Hi and welcome! Most of what you are experiencing is likely related to the prednisone. I hope that it gets better soon.

i don't think the pain of lower spine and feet is from prednisone .. maybe its from the uc its self. you should take care if this is an arthritics related to uc , it was started with me like that and turned to a nightmare

Hi there...reagarding the tiny flecks you're seeing, I actually saw that a couple weeks ago for the first time but haven't seen it since. I looked like little specks of white light flying all over the place. The sweating might very well be the prednisone...I've had times while on prednisone that I've had SEVERE night sweats to the point I was swimming in my bed. For your lower spine, I do know you can get lower back pain when during a flare, it's happened to me a few times but I'm not sure about the feet. Hello..

Beginning and ending flares is really such an individual thing. Dependent on so many different factors. Over time you will get to know your system very well.
Also every flare might not be the same. Some people end flares in weeks or months. Others might flare for months or God forbid years. I have had flares that I nip in the bud and it never really takes off. Other times, well crap happens....I am sure most here would agree staying on some type of meds reduces the risk of new flares...For me rectal meds, steroid enemas, works usually in about 1 month. But it might take me another two months to tapper off. Rectal steroids are much easier on your system. I never really had to deal with prednisone, I was lucky there. It can really be a crap shoot here, pun intended, to get yourself regulated. But it usually does happen. Hang in there...

Thank you all so much! I'm going to see my GI doc in the am. Hopefully he can recommend a Rheumatologist for me. I was just curious what does everyone take for the pain? I've been prescribed ultram 100mg every 6 hours and for bad times tylenol 3 but they haven't been working as well as i had hoped.

regarding the pain, when I was recently hospitalized, my GI prescribed Vicodin which seemed to work well. Thankfully I don't have much if any pain at all :knock on wood:
