hey i have only had pan colitis the last 5 months wait away with steriods and mezavent now just on mezavent 4 a day and getting flare up does this mean i should chgane my medas and go back to the doctor could do with sum advice thanks

You should probably go see your GI doctor. It sounds like the mezavent is not working. You may need a different type of mesalamine. Many people re-flare when coming off the prednisone, including myself. Another option that works for people is the mesalamine enemas. I know it does not sound like much fun but it does work! They treat the lower section which is always the first to flare and the last to stop. You might ask your doctor for a prescription. I get the generic kind as it is cheaper.

yeah that sounds good how often do u get flare ups its a horrible thing to be living with i don't know what one day to the next will be like hopefully i can get a break when i get proper tabs i taught these ones would work

I developed UC after I quit smoking. I have had 2 flares in the past 2 years and both lasted about 8 months. I had a couple of weeks break in the first flare but that was when I came off the prednisone and re-flared. So to me that was basically one long flare. I have been in remission since February so it has not been that long. I am taking Lialda. I believe using the enemas enabled me to get off the prednisone without reflaring. Switching from Asacol to Lialda helped me to maintain remission so far. It is hard to find the right balance and takes a lot of trial and error. I hope you get some relief soon.

yeah hopefully was hoping tablets would work doctors are not as with it in ireland as maybe other countries so maybe i need to suggest to them a better way of treaing me is there any food that can help is drinking alcochol bad

Hi..welcome to the forum!

You should also request rectal mesalamine retention enemas from the doctor...that will help heal the sigmoid and rectum.

As well...consider fibre supplements and probiotics.

When it comes to food and alcohol everyone is different. Some people can not drink alcohol when they are in a flare. I do not have a problem but keep it to a minimum, 1-2 beers, or wine. If I am flaring I try not to eat spicy, hot food. If I am not flaring I eat what ever I want. I usually lose my appetite when I am flaring, that is unless I am taking prednisone! Then I can not get enough to eat.

ah thanks alot for the advice will take it all in sorry if my posts were'nt perfect was feeding my new baby at the same time as writing the posts ha ha Think I am going to go back to the doctor and maybe see can a different tablet help me and maybe change some things in my diet also

Your posts are fine! and feeding the baby at the same time now thats impressive!

Welcome x I have found this forum the very best for info and advice and there are so many people who have been there and got the tshirt. We are all very different though.

I would say listen to all the meds advice but I have learned one very long tale and that is the medication rule is a long path...... What works once may not work again, there is an escalation of meds route, read lots about the ones which kick your sympstoms into being better, the medicine which keeps you well along the way and the harder core stuff which you may have to try accasionally. My small time advice would be listen to your body, trust your doctor and there will be something that works for you.....BUT be patient and allow time!

Another hairdresser..nice!!! just graduated or working for a while?

Please ask your GI for the retention enemas...more tablets won't reach the rectum.
We who use them make the suggestion based on common sense.

Food won't make your flares worse, but food intake can make some discomfort less.

If you've recently had a baby, then that is part of the flare issue as well....it's unfortunate the doc decided to put you on prednisone initially. My personal bias, however.

Oh I didn't have a baby my girlfriend did ha ha. thanks for warm welcome debbie was nice tto hear. Can anybody tell me if they have any normal days or is there always little symtoms going on all the time. Didn.t really enjoy been on the steriods found they made you feel a bit down going back the doctor tomorrow hopefully he can change things for me.
