Hello Members,

I found out in Jan. that I had UC after a couple years of on and off blood which cansa helped but then it got to where it didn't do anything started with 40 pred and 4 lialda in Jan which to in about 2-3 weeks blood was gone and then during the taper about 15 pred blood came back so we went up on the pred and started 50mg 6mp about 5 weeks ago and I still have a very small amount of blood at 20 mg pred I guess what I tring to find out being so new how bad do I have this and is always having some blood somewhat normal.

how severe was your inflammation when you had a colonoscopy? Some blood is definitely normal when you're flaring unfortunately...I've been flaring for over 2 years now and can't seem to find remission. I've seen blood on and off during my flare...some heavy and some light. The 6mp may take some time to get in your system...it's a very slow working drug...I've taken as much as 100mg of 6mp...I'm currently on 50 at the moment. Prednisone, although very effective, is not something you want to be on long term...it's an absolutely horrible drug...you can find out much more about it reading through the forums here.

As you taper the pred, you might want to try a steroid based enema-Cortifoam. it may help heal the lower part of the colon.
The 6mp can take 2+ months to get you to a therapeutic level and 50 mgs. is a light/moderate dose. A small amount of blood means there is still a fragile colon trying to heal. Take care. Don't let it get out of control.

thanks for the advise there is just so much to learn about this an a bit hard taking it all I have so many questions

don't hesitate to ask...we pretty much discuss every aspect of the disease here...even all the glorious symptoms, no matter how embarassing. We pretty much talk about poop all day long :)

     I remember back when I started 6MP.  It took three months to "kick in" along with the prednisone.
