Had colonoscopy yesterday, two polyps removed...what should do/expect next?

my very first colonoscopy I had with my initial diagnosis showed a large polyp which was removed and was benign...I believe most typically are. I know I also have one in my gall bladder and in my right sinus cavity. I haven't had any further polyps in my colon since the first was removed. All you can do is really wait for the lab reports but a polyp doesn't necessarily mean there is trouble.

I would first relax and be patient for the follow up with your doctor.  Polyps are quite common in the colon and are often just inflammatory tissue.  Be glad you had a colonscopy and had them removed.  I have them as well, had them removed and my path report just stated it was inflammatory tissue, no more.  There are many people with no UC who have polyps removed.  One of dear friends just had his colonscopy due to having turned 50.  A polyp was discovered and he just had a foot of his large intestine removed.  He is doing well and it was benign.

In closing many people who have colonscopies have had polyps removed, there are different kinds, psuedopolyps, etc...  The important thing is to have them looked.  Usually they are just tags of inflammation, nothing more.

     My last colonoscopy was in May of 08.  I usually have them every two years but now my doctor said he would like to do one every year since I have had UP for eleven years.  Never had any polyps nor dysplasia, only inflammation in the rectum.  Rest of colon clear as a bell.

I'd be scared as well....it's good they were removed and will be checked. You'll have to go by the results. Maybe another scope in a year would be a good thing if all is clear....if there are no polyps with the next scope, maybe every 2 years will be what will suffice.

I would suggest that if you can take the Salofalk retention enemas to start using them.....it covers the rectum and sigmoid...helps regarding cellular changes towards cancer, and may help the prevention of the polyps if they're not UC-related.

Request a copy of the complete colonscopy report and the biopsy report from your primary care doctor. She should have it and can get a free copy if she doesn't. If you don't have one, ask in writing for one from the GI.You might have to pay for it. Don't go back and send him a letter telling him why afterward. GI/colonscopy mill practices were very profitable a few years back and competition has cut into that in most cities. Some are bitter and cutting corners because living on only $300k a year is tough and not what they expected. I got treated like a dish rag at my local colonscopy mill and will simply find another doctor. Not speaking with you is a breech of normal practice but you probably missed nothing.

Don't freak out over polyps. Cancerous polyps are the most common type of cancer but almost always very slow growing and most polyps will never become cancerous. Check the Mayo and John Hopkins web sites for info. They run in my family and nobody has ever had even a precancerous polyp. I had one that was twice the size of a golf ball taken out in january. The first 2 stages of cancerous polyps are very curable also.

I had my annual colonoscopy a few weeks ago. Polyps removed, diverticulitis, hemis, left-sided UC. I'm close to 65 and diagnosed years ago so, I'm in that danger zone where the odds go up for colon cancer. I had been having a lot of joint and muscle pain before my exam. Since the exam, I have mostly watery diarrhea and the hip and back pain is worse. No bleeding (yet) but something isn't right. This seems to have started when I finally was weaned off Entocort. My last flare from Hades had me on 3 6MP pills, 3 Entocort, and 12 Colazal plus Colocort and Canasa. After my pee turned dark and I was bruising all over, my Gastro told me to quit the 6MP. Seems that method is cheaper than blood monitoring for 6MP. Just wait until you overdose, then start tapering. If I have to get back on the serious med (6MP), I'm going to find another dr. I have a friend recently diagnosed with Crohn's. He finally went to a medical group in a neighboring state and said it was like being on another planet compared to the way he was shuffled around the local hospitals. When I came to from my exam, I asked my gastro what to do about all the joint and muscle pain. He said, on his way out the door, take two Aleve. In other words, take two aspirin and call me in the morning.

Don't worry too much about a polyp or two but, if your doctor doesn't treat you with respect, find another.

Hey katie, this is a really old thread. You may want to start a new one. Though this board is really for UC, not so much specific to scopes and polyps.

I had a polyp once. It was precancerous but they removed the whole thing and I was rechecked many times and never had another. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about. The size is concerning in my opinion, but whatever the result, there are many options. Likely it is nothing to worry about. Try to stay calm.
