euphoria feeling with pentasa

confused     i have been taking pentasa for almost two years, four grams daily (two 500 mg capsules four times daily).  for the past two months, i have started to feel a dizziness feeling, sort of euphoric feeling.  it comes and goes within seconds.  it is a feeling as though i may faint.  it has progressively gotten worse over the past two weeks.  i do not seem to lose my balance, as i stated, it only last a few seconds, but occurs many times throughout the day.

has anyone else felt this way for those of you who have taken pentasa?

Are you in remission or flaring? If you're bleeding a lot, that might be it.

I think you should get fully checked out before assuming it's only the Pentasa. Not to say that it can't cause some of those feelings, but what you're describing is how I feel sometimes, and mostly that's because of my neck or vestibular problems.

Have you recently had a cold?

What other meds are you on?

thanks for your responses. i have been in a flare for over two years with minimal bleeding due to being on oral prednisone and hydorocortisone enemas. i also take 150 mg of iron daily.

i have been off the oral pred for a coupld of months now. the only prescribed medication i am taking is pentasa, pred enema and the iron.

i do take some supplements: flax seed oil, DHA, probiotics, multivitamin. (all meds and supplements with the exception of the iron, i have been taking regularly for two years).

so, i don't know why i feel the way i do. i am not having too much bleeding (i have bled worse in the past and never felt this way).

i have noticed that the euphoric feeling is much worse when i am walking around verses sitting or laying down.

i googled uc and dizziness and i saw a link to "pentasa and dizziness". it said that high doses of pentasa for a long period of time can cause vertigo in 3% of patients taking it. could i be the 3%? i didn't tell my dr about it during my last visit because i thought it would go away. i don't really know why i just can't quit taking the pentasa all together because it does not help to maintain remission.

i go to my dr next week and i will be sure to tell him then. do you think my feelings could be from something else i am taking? like i said, i have been on this same regimen for two years and have never felt this way......

any responses would be appreciated! thanks so much!

i used pentasa for 4 continuous years with no side effect of it .... i think pentasa has the least side effects of all drugs we use

i hv no issues with pentasa either

I have been on Pentasa for 2 years now with no side effects (that I know of).

I did however have a bout of vertigo which I don't believe was related to Penatsa. I believe it was positional vertigo. Anyways, it cleared up with some exercises. If you have vertigo, it is not a "euphoric" feeling, but more like the room is spinning, can't stand up, grab the closest thing because you're going to fall down or vomit feeling. It's actually a bit scary. I was even told not to drive while on it (I was just extra careful).

I think you're best bet is to go see your doctor and put your mind at ease. I'm not saying it's not from the Pentasa, but sounds to me like possibly something more to it than that. If it is vertigo, must be mild, otherwise, you'd know it.
