Lialda/Mesalmine...making things worse

Has anyone found that Lialda/Meslamine has actually made things worse? I forgot a does for a few days and actually felt more relief. When i remembered to take it again my symptoms got kicked up a notch. Arrrg! So frustrating!

It helped me over time, but for the first few months it definitely made my symptoms worse. Try taking Lialda at night (always with food!). I found I could sleep through most of the side effects and would feel better during the day.

While still flaring, if I take Lialda at night without food I inevitably will get up with an upset stomach around 3am. Of course, everyone is different, but my system feels particularly sensitive to mesalamine.

Have you tried Rowasa enemas? I sound like a broken record in all my posts, but Lialda in combination with Rowasa helped immediately. The idea of taking an enema might not be appealing (I let the box of Rowasa sit in my room for a month before getting up the courage to try it) - but I found them very easy to use and tolerate - and they REALLY help!

Oral mesalamine makes things worse for me. I used to use the Mesalamine enemas and over time I guess I just developed an intolerance. I get bloating and really bad abdominal pain from it. :o(

So for right now I am getting slight fevers at night. I get alot of mucous in bm's. Bm's range from completely water. so loosely formed.
When I strain alot and that's when I see a little bit of blood. I have had a lot of blood in the past but the past week has been alot better. My urgencies are about 5-6 a day. I get up at night sometimes twice and almost have accidents....

A month ao when I was feeling great and was having almost formed bm in the am with a few bloat during the day. And I was not not waking up in the night to have accidents!
I also try to follow the SCD diets (no grains, sugar...I have cheese in very small amounts like farmers cheese or sheep cheese.)

Yes Asacol and Colazal definitely end up making me worse, I should say at first Asacol worked then a few months later my body seem to reject it, weird side effects and not controlling UC, changed to colazal, not any better. Things improved as soon as I quit colazal. Sulfasalazine for some reason seems ok at a lower dosage.

Yes. I've noticed that mesalamines made my symptoms worse, so far they include: Lialda and Asacol. Colazol stopped working. I did find Canasa supplements to help, but I used those for only about a week.

I've found that mesalamines worked temporarily and when they did, they were more effective than turmeric. However, I've just started trying upping the number of turmeric supplements I take to between 4 and 6 per day when the condition of my poo gets worse. I'm finding that turmeric is very effective, especially at the higher dosage.
