I am in the worst flare of my life. I have never been this sick or had to run to the bathroom to pass bloody gas in my entire 4 years with this disease. I started Imuran about a week ago, now I have a cold. surely it hasn't affected my immune system yet, I was told it takes a month. one thing I'm worried about is the pain, I've never had pain and don't know what to do, I can barely get out of bed, so tired and achey, my legs and back hurt too. I don't know if I can make it till monday. I'm worried maybe one of my diverticuli has ruptured. surely I would be extremely sick....anyone else have these two conditions? the GI didn't seem too worried about the diverticulosis, I'm worried with the tenderness and pain I may be developing Toxic Megacolon. I can't find any good info on it. but I just don't know what to do, I've never wanted to die in my entire life until the past couple weeks. this is unbearable.

If you are in severe pain and can't get out of bed, please call your GI's answering service and see what they want you to do. You may need to go to an emergency room. Please call someone!

Hi there
so sorry bout all yr dealing with i can just imagine the pain n frustration u are feeling
my mom had divey and the poor woman was in pain so bad at times she could just only sit n cry...
many a time she could not make it to btrm in time n i know it really embarrassed her that i would be cleaning here up

i hope you feel better n if not maybe a trip to er would help

Oh I am so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. I don't know anything about diverticulosis, so I am sorry that I can't be of any help there.  It's crazy to hear that your GI doesn't seem to concerned about a rupture. If it was me, I would just go to emergency and get treated there. When I started flaring a few months ago, my pain was pretty bad and my GI wouldn't give me any sort of pain relieve. I was forced to go into emergency where they treated me there for pain and started me on prednisone, (which didn't work btw).

Are you just using cort enemas and apriso to treat the flare or are you on oral steroids as well? If you are on oral steroids, what dosage and how long? If it's been a week or longer and you're still getting worse, I'd see about going to the hospital. :o(

I would go to urgent care or emergency room. Diverticulous is really not an issue unless it becomes diverticulitus(infected diverticuli).This rarely happens. Diverticulous is very common. At least take your temperature. Fever bad.. high white blood count bad. I have diverticulous and my dad had to have a section of his colon removed due to diverticulitis. I was told not to worry about my diverticulous.

I am so sorry to hear this. I think it may be time to go to the ER. Feel better and pls keep us posted w/ how you are doing.

I am on Oral steroids as well, it was a 12 day dose pack. hasn't helped at all. they never do. I'm not too optimistic about the Imuran Either. 5 days after being on it I came down with a cold on top of my flare. its pretty bad. I don't really know what to do. I just lay in bed in pain and the only time I get up is to go pass painful gas and blood. haven't had any solid bowels in a month. my GI basically said to give the meds more time. I dont' know how much time I need to give till I get worse or die. this is rediculous.

12 day dose pack? What is that? How many mg?

As for the Imuran, that's not a really a kill a flare medication. My doctor told me it usually takes about 3 months to see results. He put me on prednisone to kill my flare and the plan was to taper off prednisone onto Imuran and an oral 5 ASA as maintenance meds. So, Imuran is more of a long term treatment and less of something you put someone on to kill a bad flare. I mean don't get me wrong it does help, eventually, but after 8 days, it's probably had very little effect on you.

I understand how Imuran works. but the steroids are not working. even last year in a bad flare I was on 80 MG a day of prednisone without any relief. I really want surgery, just don't know how to go about getting it with no money and no insurance. guess I just have to be another casualty of the healthcare system.

a 12 day dose pack is a taper pack. 10mg and you work your way up to 60mg a day then taper back down to 20. even when I was taking 80 mg a day for a month it didn't seem to make the flare go away. and of course I was taking 5 asa and also steroid enema. not too sure what to do. so guess its time to drag myself out of the bed and go sit in the ER for 5 hours while they do nothing.

So here I sit in the er waiting room for 2 hours. Apparently a bug bite is priority. Told them all my symptoms and meds I'm on, still waiting. Rediculous
