I have been lurking here the past week or so, reading through some discussions.
I am newly diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (April 2010), my first symptom was blood in my poop, which I first assumed was a really stubborn hemmoroid, but it didn't go away, so I finally went to see my doctor and came back with this diagnosis. I never wanted hemmoroids before, but I was certainly hoping that what it would be. No such luck. So I did canasa for about 10 days and got dizzy and nauseated. So I stopped taking it, felt better, though still blood in poop, and at this point I am starting to develop more symptoms (more frequent poop, abdominal pains, etc.)
I have never ever been a person who goes to the doctor other than an annual exam. I don't take any medication that I don't *have* to take. I have spent almost every night browsing internet sites for info on alternative healing methods for Crohn's and Colitis.
I bought the book about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" and read it, and it kinda makes sense to me so I am giving it a try. I am also trying probiotics and a few other herbs/supplements (Boswellia, fish oil).
I am wondering if ANYONE out there has experienced a remission from symptoms totally drug free? (please, someone, say yes ) I am looking for some positive encouragement here. Mostly I hear about people trying lots of different meds, and when one stops working, they get another, etc. Not too many stories of people successfully getting rid of symptoms with no meds.
I also wonder if there are people out there who got a UC diagnosis, and when symptoms went away, they just never came back? Is that at all ever possible, or does EVERYONE have flares periodically? (I am guessing that if you never had a flare, you would have no reason to be there talking about it, but it's something I haven't yet heard of, so I'm still hopeful that it's maybe possible for some lucky few? Hope springs eternal.)
Those are my questions for today.
Thanks!
