Rectal/Anal spasm leading to considerable straining

I've been having little or no inflammation lately with soft well formed stools at regular intervals. There has been no visible bleeding. What has been happening however is that shortly after I start a bowel movment and some stool passes my rectal area tightens up and things stop. The rest of my colon keeps pushing but I have to strain to try and get things moving if at all. Eventually after several minutes of straining things open up a a large but well formed stool comes out (not small pencil shaped or ribbon shaped but normal size). It's like a dam burst. Which would be fine but for the pain in the area afterwards which sometimes results in a hemorrhoid.

Anyone experience anything like this? As I said things down there don't feel particularly inflammed. It just seems like the muscles seize up.

I've been on the enemas nightly for four months (through a bad flare that started after taking cipro/flagyl back in Jan). For the last two weeks I have also been taking a 1000mg 5ASA suppository daily.

We'll see how the week goes and how my appointment with my GI goes. It's just a little disturbing when things won't come out...

Things seemed to have improved with the suppositories although I had my most recent issue while taking them.

I recently had a sigmoidoscopy (late April) and everything was fine (little or no inflammation, no hemmies, healed fissure). BMs occur about every day and a half for me. And as I said earlier, poops are well formed and an appropriate size. Just getting them out is a problem for some reason (due to what I can only imagine is spasming).
