I have looked at the several other post on hair issues due to UC / Meds. I was going to get the Biotin but was completely confused on what to get. This stuff ranges from 5 mg to 1000 mcg. (Not sure what the diff is between the mg and mcg?) Anyways does anyone have any real success with this stuff? Not sure how bad it is falling out because i really never payed attention to it until someone mentioned that you lose your hair occasionally so i am not sure if i am losing it at a natural rate or not. Also the hair texture seems different. Does this go away once you are in remission for awhile? What are some other things i can do?

Hi Husker
I take 5,000 mcg biotin and am only certain that it makes my nails stronger. 'Bout it for me.

I think the 5000 mcgs made a huge difference when I was taking them for hairloss.

What meds are you on? When I was on pred my doctor said my zinc might be low and we checked my blood to see if he was right. He was and I just took zinc and it helped. But if you're not on pred maybe just try that biotin stuff.

My hair falls out horribly, to the point where I wear wigs. It's a weird texture too. It's probably due to psoriasis of the scalp, I'm thinking, because my scalp itches and stuff too. I'm on meds for it but it doesn't really do much, only lessens it. I take biotin and that helps my hair and nails grow, but doesn't stop my hair from falling out. :(

Just so you know,
1 mg = 1,000 mcg.
So, the people who take 5,000 mcg Biotin are taking 5 mg Biotin.

Are you male or female?
While we normally lose around 100 hair a day, the itchy scalp could be med, hormonal, nutrient, stress, autoimmune, diet, topical irritant, etc...related.
Where on the scalp is your itching?
What other meds and supplements are you taking?
What is your diet like?
Have you had your thyroid checked?
Do you wear a cap/hat?
How often do you wash your hair?
The hair cycle of replacement is somewhere in the 2 - 6 year range, depending on how long the hair is programmed to grow. There are some things that can interfere with aceleration and duration of dormancy.
Hair grows about
a half - one inch a month...again variables.

Quincy
I am Male
Starting to tingle all over the top of my head but can't really see anything yet. Mainly behind my ears is starting to get bad.
Not taking any supplment yet.
Diet could certainly be better. I try to stay away from spicey things but pretty much everything else is game.
Never had my thyroid checked
Sometimes i wear a hat but its not often
Wash my hair every morning.
Scared to death that this is going to spread all over.
