Hello everybody, I recently decided to join this forum, wanted to be with some people who understood the disease I was going through and maybe help others through it.
My name is Travis, you can call me that, T, T$ (what I go by on the coin forums) whatever you feel comfortable with.
I've had Ulcerative Colitis since January of 2008, although at the time it was pronounced Crone's Disease. I missed around 50 days of 7th grade because of it, my first real signs of a flare up were early one morning around 5, I was getting ready for basketball and I told my mother I just couldn't go, she left for work. I was dehydrated, but I hadn't had any diarrhea. I decided to drink a Red Fanta, and lets just say I have no desire to drink Red Fanta ever again! I went through my primary care doctor and he recommended a gastroenterologist doctor of course. The only problem with that is, in San Antonio, a rather big Texas city, there were only 4 pediatric doctors, and one of them was moving and the other three were in the same practice. After the colonoscopy they diagnosed me with Crone's, and put me on Colozal. Colozal is the absolute worst medicine I'd ever been on, and actually made me worse. On Colozal they also put my on those Enemas, and of course they work, but they suck, hated doing them. A few months after they put me on Lialda, which worked a little better, but caused me to have heart and urination problems. I was hospitalized December 9th of 2008 with an extreme flare up, the worst I'd had. I'd been sick pretty much all of that year, and missed 100+ days of 8th grade. They put me on Prednisone, Azathiroprine, and Apriso, a brand new drug. I believe it was March or so of this year, that I finally got off of Prednisone, and I have to say, that drug works but made me a fat slob. I gained around 60 lbs, but the 10th of December, one day after the hospital visit, I was nearly cured of the flare up! It is a strong medicine, with plenty of setbacks. I'm glad to be off of it.
9th grade was a different story, I missed maybe 30 days at most, and that all came from my appendicitis/kidney stones. And it was great timing because my resting period was on Spring Break, so I got right back into the swing of things. I maintained my straight "A" average as well. After being off of Prednisone, this was supposed to be the summer I get completely back in shape, but things changed as I dislocated my knee and tore my Meniscus on May 28th, I'm currently in physical therapy for that, but no running for a while.
That pretty much is my story, been in remission ever since the day I was on Prednisone
Just glad to be alive and Colon Cancer free!
