For those it's worked for, how long did it take to kick in fully? We were told three weeks, if that's the case, it's not working.

i used cort enema with the sulfasalazine, and that is what put me into a ten year remission. so not sure if it was more the cortenema or the sulfasalazine, but it took about 10 days

When I switched from Colazal (which made me worse), to sulfasalazine, I seen improvement the next day. But it may just be that I quit the Colazal.
I think a lot of it has to do with what is the actual cause of your disease and where it is located.

My daughters (with pancolitis) is on it and though she's had a lot of improvement (knock on wood) she's not in remission. She's been on a full dose for about a month. I'm wondering if it can take longer or if it just wont do the job.

it worked very well with arthritics but it take more than month to give its affect (6 pills a day ) . i also take pentasa for uc

My doctor decided to take me off sulfasalazine and put me on asacol. I was seeing much better results with the sulfasalazine. Being on asacol I feel as if I've started over. It upsets my stomach, I feel like throwing up whatever I eat and I've had a big loss of appetite since I started on asacol. And my stools are straight liquid, no form whatsoever. I was starting to see a little bit of form with the sulfasalazine but still having loose bloody stools as well but they were better than they are now. I've only been on asacol it for 4 days so I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. If the side effects keep up over the next few days I'm gonna request to be put back on sulfasalazine.

It's not instant - when I had my last flare (before this one), it took about 3 months, too!
