I love my soada drinks full of sugar but realising they are bad for my health and for my colon. How do people do with sports drinks like Gatorade or Powerade. Are these really much better than the 'fizz' if you want to reduce sugar?

if you're going to drink soda, youll be better off switching to gatorade but the ultimate drink is water. gatorade will give you the dextrose you need post workout to refill muscle glycogen stores.

Gatorade is crap, and just as full of sugar and junk as soda....if you want to replenish your electrolytes then drink pedialyte, at least it doesn't have tons of added junk to it like gatoraid does...gatoraid bothers many "healthy" people guts, let alone ppl with gut issues...water is also a great friend to the bowels and the body in general.

I never had an issue with Gatorade. In fact, I had one last night with no problems and I am coming out of a flare. Now soda, that is another story for me. I have a lot of issues with dark colas and caffeinated sodas but not too much of a problem with Sierra Mist or Sprite. Sometimes I have to shake the bubbles out. So to me, drinking soda is not worth it but like you, I like something with flavor every once in a while. So I tend to drink flavored water, Gatorade or sometimes Lipton's Ice Tea with lemon.

my last flare I drank A LOT of gatorade as it's a "clear liquid" and my GI told me to stick to clear liquids while i was in the flare...
I believe this may have caused my flare to be more severe... I was forced to go to the ER one morning as I could barely walk to the bathroom without fainting. I got to the hospital and I was SEVERELY dehydrated and of course anemic (almost fatally)
I don't know if possibly the sugars and whatever else is in gatorade was hurting me but I'm now in my 3rd flare (for 4 days now) and I drank gatorade last night as I didn't really put 2 and 2 together from my last flare with the gatorade.. and had pretty severe vomiting through the night, and every time I was throwing up gatorade and it burned like hell coming up... so I'm sticking to water this time!

Gatorade has never had an effect on my UC, good or bad.

Gatorade, Vitamin Water, Life Water and most sodas are all a death sentence to me. I like my drinks with flavor so I tend to stick with water and a raspberry crystal light packet, if that's not around I stick to plain water, sprite or lactose free milk

I do fine with any pop or sports drink except Mt. Dew. I like Vitamin Water a lot. But juice is my favorite thing. Or lemonade, something like that. I avoid Splenda because it gives me headaches so I don't drink or eat anything with that kind of thing in it.
