Hi! I am new to the forum and have been doing a lot of research online regarding the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet) diet and fecal bacteriotherapy. I found an article written by an endoscopy nuse who talked about
how they cured a pt with C Diff using fecal transplants. His name is Dr Alan Karp and He is located in El Paso Tx. I am strongly considering contacting him tomorrow to see if he has treated anyone with U.C. or would consider doing it using Dr Borody's protocol (The GI doc from Australia). I am a nurse and the whole concept of this makes sense to me. If you take antibiotics over a period of years and kill off the good and bad bacteria, when you eat carbohydrates they feed the bacteria so the bad bacteria proliferate at a faster rate ultimately altering the makeup of your intestines. The idea that you can completely replenish your GI flora using someone else's poo is, like I said, pretty gross but if it works...wouldn't it be worth it. I don't want to live my life on pills and restrictions. I also read that there is a doctor in Minnesota that has performed this treatment as well but I think it was for C Diff.
Someone else posted on here that you can get the treatment protocol from Dr Borody and give it to your physician so I may consider that. I dont think that my current GI would even give it a first thought but who knows.
If any of you know of someone who has done the therapy with success please write about it on here. It's the first sign of hope I've had for a long time!!!
Thanks
KK
I was diagnosed with UC in 2006. Was in remission until last year when I started Amoxicillin for an infected tooth and began seeing symptoms within 2 days. I am currently on Asacol and recently started back with Rowasa enemas...the enemas seem to help a bunch. I took prednisone for about a month and don't think that did much for me. My GI doctor said the next step would be Remicade which I REFUSE to do so we will see what happens.
