There a couple of new folks who just had IRA for UC. I had the ileoanal, more common for UCers. I'm sorry to hear of your complications. I wish you well; some of the older IRA patients I know have had to return to surgery because of UC running amok in the rectum. I hope that doesn't happen to you.

Thanks Sue - I would have opted for J-pouch/ileoanal but a positive diagnosis between UC and CD could not be made. Prometheus labs (in all of their glory) returned three "non-conclusive" results for my UC tests. Also, the fact that the colitis occurred in my cecum, ascending colon and crept into my terminal ileum while sparing the rest of my colon and rectum confused the matter further. And further yet, many colonoscopies showed strictures more commonly found in CD.
My surgeon opted for this method as we could change our game plan after pathology of the colon could be made. Final pathology showed it was indeed UC.
Now I still have an option to remove the rectum and go j-pouch since we now know it is indeed UC.
I guess I just need a little patience and research to make a final decision.
Thanks again,
