I am tapering down the Pred, now in my second week of 10 mg, and in the last 3 nights I experienced this: I would wake up around 3-4 AM and feel a sort of chill (not shaking), or a jolt. I don't know really how to explain it. It lasts an hour or so and I am wondering if it might be from the steroid or from a drop in a mineral, blood sugar etc.
Has anyone experienced this sensation?

Yes,
I have had similar side effect almost every time a taper off prednisone. My GI always told me it is all part of the simple adjustment your body is making - and also a sign your adrenal function is starting to kick in. I would talk to your Dr. but I think it is fairly common.

"Adrenaline causes the contraction of tiny muscles attached to each hair. This is what’s behind those bumps, chills, shivers and standing up hairs.
