Psyllium and D?

Is it possible that psyllium could cause D? I have been taking a spoon twice a day for over 15 years. Could it be just now causing trouble, have I developed a sensitivity? Does such a thing even exist?

Did it help you in the past? If so, it's possible that it no longer works for you due to structural changes in your colon. Over time UC can thin the mucosa & also shrink the colon lengthwise, which impacts on functionality ... making past treatments less effective, not effective, or even irritating. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

It could if the formula you have has artificial sweeteners in it...otherwise, I don't think so.Or, you're now sensitive to it.You could, in fact, be flaring. Have you been eating any fruits lately...that could cause diarrhea./
Where in the colon is your UC and what meds are you on?

Any new supplements or meds?q

Thanks - I have afeeling it maybe just slowly stopped working. Right now I'm on Pentasa and just started Align a few days ago. Incessant D and urgency are my symptoms, no blood etc.

Have you tried psyllium seed powder? I think the seed powder is much less likely to irritate. Psyllium seed powder has made a huge difference for us.

Did the D and urgency start after you began taking the Align?  I tried Align for a couple of weeks last Spring and noticed a definite loosening of my stool, as well as gas.

I am thinking of going for the seed powder, I have taken husk powder before but not seed powder.
AussieDogMom, I have only been taking Align for 5 days and it is helping a lot so far, no negative effects at all. My D has been with me for almost 3 years. Funny how we all react differently to different stuff.
