OK, this is a weird one...

I've been flaring again for about 2 months now, having blood, clots, mucus and lots of gross poopies... SO... last Wednesday I develop a HORRIFIC bladder infection, it was so bad that I felt like I was going to pass out, I was nauseous and in a LOT of pain... So I went to the Dr and he prescribed me Bactrim DS 2x a day and I started taking it Wednesday night... Well, 2 days later and my bleeding is pretty much GONE and I have normal poopies??

What could this mean? I always thought taking antibiotics would make me worse, so I haven't taken ANY in like 5 years! Now I'm forced to take some and my U/C is getting better...

I have been using Rowasa every night and that wasn't even stopping the bleeding... This is making me wonder if I've had a bacterial infection in my colon or something this whole time?

Anyhoo, I'm just happy that I have been getting better and wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen??

I've seen a few people on here that had this happen, but I can't remember who....

Absolutely it's possible....probably from that bronto leg you had all those years ago, Wilma!

Make sure you're taking probiotics...doubled! Drink LOTS of water with Bactrim.

Maybe you could see if the doc would do some stool sample the next time you have symptoms.

LOL Quincy! LOL.... you could be right about that bronto leg... I swear I'll never forget that one.. Man it was SO GOOD though... lol...

I have doubled up on my culturelle and have been drinking SOOO much water. Boy I can't stand bladder infections.. this one went a little septic.. I was loopy and felt like passing out, couldn't concentrate or even finish a sentence... very scary... Today is day 4 of antibiotics and I'm doing much better but staying in bed today and sleeping as much as possible...I've been way over doing it and I don't ever want to feel that way again it was scary!

I am going to cal my GI tomorrow and let him know what's going on and see what he thinks.. But for now.. It's just nice to go pee without clinging onto the toilet seat for life!!!

Susie, what a story! Glad you're feeling some better, in any case! I've heard of both Bactrim and Flagyl helping in some cases and in some flares. Wow.

I too felt better for a bit when I had to take antbiotics when I had a respiratory infection from the swine flu. I wondered if it was the antibiotic or the fact that my immune system was going after something else in my body and was too busy to attack my colon ??? My UC symptoms did return about a month later though.

Glad to hear your feeling better with the UC...hope it stays that way :) Bladder infections suck...I used to get them all of the time but I haven't had one in about two years.

It is possible you wil feel better while on the antibiotics and your symptoms could return after you stop taking them. Let's hope that's not the case. Maybe you will go into remission from this, that would be nice!!

Well...all good things must come to an end... I had a poopie this afternoon and the blood is back, just not too bad... Well.. Who knows.. I was straining a bit and maybe it's just a fissure this time... it was totally gone for the last couple of days so why would it come back all of a sudden... ? I think I'm fighting off more than just the bladder infection now as my lungs hurt and my throat feels a bit scratchy.. GEEZ... I think I've been pushing it so hard that the good Lord is forcing me into some downtime! I'm so glad my rent on my new place is paid through September!!

I have arranged to have most of this week off.. My son is coming up to visit me tomorrow for a couple of days before heading back to OK, then he goes off to Afghanistan in September for a year.. UGH... My BABY!!!!

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing him and just relaxing and talking up a storm.. :D :) :D :) :D :)

OK, weird.. I go again and No sign of blood... this is weird... never had it off and on like that before.... been poopie-ing more frequently but I think that's because of the antibiotics....

It sounds like you are flaring anyway, but possibly something else going on if the antibiotics are helping.
