Such pain...ribs, etc

Holding stress there, possibly? Happened to me.

Early on I had what I understood was a temporary arthritis in my rib cage, caused by UC, which made breathing uncomfortable. I took Voltaren and it cleared up.

I was going to suggest perhaps costochondritis as well.  I had that once and it was kind of an ache sometimes but sometimes a sharp pain as well.  It radiated from my breastbone over to my left rib cage.

DocGP, I've had/have all of the above. I usually get the sternum pain if I go slightly overboard with any upper body exercise. It usually lasts about a week and shuts me down from all upper body exercise until it resolves itself. I didn't start getting this pain until I came down with UC, so I'm guessing this is just another arthritis-related issue (I've had many).

I also have those lumps you mentioned. My doctor checked them out and said they were lipomas. They shouldn't be serious, but it can't hurt to be checked out by a specialist.

A friend of mine who is a GI had similar behind-the-ribs pain, had every test imaginable, and it finally went away when he started some tiny dosage of an anti-depressant (much less than the dosage if used for depression) and a probiotic. They never did figure out the cause.
