I have to ask; Has anyone noticed a stain of maybe light purple or light brown on the toilet seat after taking Lialda for a few weeks?  It looks like it's from pee splashing.  I take 4 in the morning for maintanence of UC. So far it seems to be controlling flare ups.

It's from the Lialda. Any of the mesalimine drugs cause it. I experienced it with Asacol and Colazal as well. It was worse with the enemas, making a real mess.

The best way to deal with it, if dirty toilets bother you as much as they do me, is to keep disinfectant wipes and a disposable toilet brush product (such as Dow or Clorox's) handy for touch-ups.

There was actually another pretty funny thread that was a month or so ago about the purple stuff. Totally normal, dont sweat it.

Yep, it will do that. I usually just bleach the seat regularly to get the stains off... not fun!

Thanks to all who responded. A little comfort goes a long way. Appreciate it. By the way, I'm a 19 male dignosed with severe UC about 18 months after I finished the normal course of Sotret (Acutane) for my acne. The doc told me if these medications; Prednizone, and Lialda did not work, they might try some serious chemotherapy drugs and if that didn't work they would probablly have to take out my entire colon and rectum. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed at the makers of Acutane because they warned me about other pretty bad side effects but nothing like UC and what I'm going though.

Actually, if the LIalda doesn't work, you might ask to try one of its relatives in the 5-ASA class: Asacol, Apriso, etc - some seem to work better for some folks than others, due to where their inflammation is worst or the PH of their system.
